go pro or this?

No contest, Go Pro any day if cost is not a deciding factor for you. I've still got one of these in the cupboard from when I reviewed it for this very same seller. Gad I got it for free otherwise pointless purchase as not a patch on a few other caneras that I have had
Seems to be on offer currently as a deal below £30. Googling it appears this action camera has a basic 4MP sensor and a Sunplus 6350 chipset.

translate.google.com/tra…rch

So it is capable of 1080p 60fps recording but the image sensor is basic quality. 4k mode is interpolated from 1080p. Still images max out at 4MP so are interpolated above that. So it allows up to 2k still images.

In summary ok chipset and sensor but nothing amazing. There are definitely worse action cameras out there at this price and also much better ones as well.

There is another model here on Amazon for a similar price but they state it has a Sony sensor and image stabilisation plus an external mic option. Seems potentially a better action camera although they claim it has a 20MP sensor but if its a IMX078 as stated its 12MP.

As ever action cameras specs have very little connection with the truth most specs are exaggerated for cheap chinese action cameras however there are many real bargains mixed in too. As its Amazon if you are not fully satisfied just send it back at their expense most of their action cameras do not meet the specification they have listed.

If you are unsure about an action camera spec google the brand and model number plus chipset and sensor to see if there is any information regarding its true spec. Many of the responses will be foreign sites that need to be translated.

I bought a 4k action camera from Amazon and despite having 4k on the case of the camera it was only 720p. I didn't even have to return it they allowed me to keep it for free. I think I only paid about £8 from Amazon warehouse anyway.

I'm looking for a cheap upgrade to my xaiomi Yi 1080/60 action camera, any recommendations? something with better image quality / stabilization.

You'll struggle to beat the Yi camera for image quality that camera has an ambarella chipset and either a sony or panasonic high end sensor they deliver brilliant images. It also has a 2k 30fps mode that is near professional standards. If you want image stabilisation maybe a gimbal. It really depends on how you use it.

There is this Campark model that offers 4k 60fps and image stabilisation although not sure it offers stabilisation on 4k 60fps mode.

It's not just about the resolution though its about the bitrate of the video and the Yi camera's deliver a great bitrate so less artifacts in the video. I've seen a comparison of the yi camera's 2k mode vs a true 4k action camera and because the 4k camera was struggling to provide a decent bitrate for 4k mode the yi camera was still better overall or it was simply because the image sensor was generating better detail in the first place.
