Cheap for anyone that needs it!

This is ECC registered RAM. Not really needed for a PC, but ideal for a server

Sorry, but I can't vote hot on your deal when you can get faster memory for cheaper price

Even if you dislike the red heatsink, you can most likely just take it off

The reason this is so expensive (I baulked at the price too) is that it's ECC-registered memory. Not really necessary for a desktop PC IMHO. But I googled quickly, and it is cheaper than Amazon, for example.

My bad, I totally missed that it was ECC ram, wish I could change my vote now!

OP - Can you add "server" to the title somewhere, so blind people like me notice it's ECC (I know it's in the title already...)

As Moonspook said, this is not RAM for a normal PC. It's Registered ECC which means that 1) it can detect and correct errors, which is nice if your data is important and 2) it's registered which means it draws less power from the memory bus so you can have like 4-8 of these sticks per channel, and on a server with 4 channels per CPU, multiple CPUs, that means you can have 1TB+ of RAM.

If you need ECC RAM in your server, the alternative suggested won't work - doesn't matter that it's faster and cheaper

Its registered, which is always rather cheaper and anyhow it only works in a fewer number of servers. Most people who need ECC ram need unbuffered ram for their servers or X99 workstations / whatever.

If it were EUDIMMs at this price then it would be more of a deal.
