Although not as good looking as other memory on the market due to lack of heat spreaders this DDR3 triple channel kit is perfect for anyone building a Core i7 system on a budget. Before ordering remember to check your motherboard manufacturers website to ensure compatability and you will need a 64bit operating system to utilise the whole 6GB. Free delivery is available if you don't mind waiting and you should also be able to save an extra 3% through Quidco.

It would be worth getting three of ]these just to make them look better and maybe run slightly cooler. Altough a corsair Dominator memory fan would be the best option for cooling.

A slight corrention Chaostheory you DONT need 64-bit vista to use 6gb of RAM with all the latest updates any 32-bit vista can use all the ram you throw at it! I dont know about XP tho. Windows 7 also does.

That ram should be able to get to 1600Mhz without a hitch. My corsair XMS3 1333Mhz triple chanel kit has simmilar specs and does without a problem.

Also worth mentioning that Crucial has EXCELLENT customer service. I once bought an old computer with Crucial ram in it that was broken, sent it back to RMA and a week later I had my brand new ram!

Thats a great deal. It makes the i7 look closer to being worth the money. The x58 motherboards are still expensive, but at least now you can get the 920, x58 mobo and 6GB of ram for under £500.

Nope, that's not the case I'm afraid; 32-bit versions of Windows are limited to addressing a max of 4GB of memory. That includes graphics card memory and other devices so the actual usable amount usually comes to 3.25-3.5GB. A 32-bit OS may display that 4GB (or more) is installed in the System Information section, but that's purely to stop people from thinking their RAM is faulty or not recognised correctly. You will definitely need the x64 versions of XP, Vista or 7 in order to make full and proper use of 4GB of RAM or more.

There are ways to utilise more ram with 32bit XP and Vista. You can use superspeed ramdisk pro which can definitely utilise ram above 3.5GB for use as a ramdisk, and it will store an image of whatever you put on the ramdisk.

"RamDisk Plus 9 has a most unique feature. Our patent pending technology can access memory beyond the limitation imposed by a Windows 32-bit operating system! In other words, RamDisk Plus 9 can use "unmanaged" Windows' memory e.g. above 4GB. It can also use the stubbornly inaccessable memory between 3.2GB and 4GB."

I'm not saying this is the same as having a 64bit OS, but it's one way to utilise more ram than 32bit windows can normally use.

Scan are selling a bundle deal of the I7 920 and Gigabyte X58 motherboard in their today only deals at a very nice £402.

I've just ordered this to go with the 6 gig of memory.

Hoping everything goes alright with this as I have way over spent.

But for a Nehalem at this price its worth it.
