Not sure if they were the first to make the move but eBuyer is same price now anyway.

These will be £99 in 6 weeks time - but I need an SSD now

I'm not so sure. If you look at uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Cru…L2A the price dropped pretty steadily through until June, and then slowed right down until this drop. I don't see another £30 worth of drops in just 6 weeks. In the new year though, then maybe.

the 512meg still @ £290, making less sense then a local village idiot

I don't really need one till January, so will ride the wait train.

I imagine the Samsung Triple cell, 840 will be pretttttty cheap and hopefully spur more cuts, esp with TLC SSD's

Yes, I've been waiting for ages since prices have steadily dropped, and I see no reason to change now, especially as it is a luxury and not an essential for me...

Is this on the same level as the Samsung 830series?

Excuse my ignorance but what is Samsung Triple cell?

Stonking price - this one also includes a USB/sata adapter and transfer software!

Have notified Amazon - will see if they price match this one...

Most SSD's are built using MLC NAND chips which are 2 bits-per cell, Samsung's 840 SSD (Not the 840 Pro) uses TLC NAND chips which is 3 bits-per cell, a quick discussion about it can be found on Anandtech here:
anandtech.com/sho…ssd

The thing to take away from it is:
"Remember, adding more bits per cell reduces endurance and also increases program, erase and read latencies. In a Q&A session Samsung couldn't tell us any exact P/E cycle numbers, but they claimed that the 840 has higher endurance than many competitors MLC based SSDs. We didn't get more specifics than that, but we hope to be able to test this as soon as possible. As for the performance, Samsung again wouldn't tell us any raw latency numbers, but they said their TLC NAND is roughly 50% slower than their MLC NAND."

A complete architechtural introduction about TLC can be found here:

This time of year is when they clear out stock for the new stuff. With PC parts, they don't tend to do a sudden big drop - the big retailers inch each other down to sell at maximum price as it hits different peoples price points.

Come on Amazon if you are reading. Still awaiting a decent price for the 512gb.

Be nice to us - £100 for it since it's nearly Christmas?

I'm pretty sure this was £100 a few weeks back at OCUK.

I think it was the V4 (slower & cheaper) version.

used amazons next day delivery so got my hands on this, a dvd drive caddy and a caddy for the HD to go in in place of the dvd drive. All up and running with the OS and applications on the SSD and the media files and data on the original HD. I have moved my photo library onto the SSD so that aperture is entirely on the SSD and not bottlenecked by fetching and writing data to the old HD but for music and videos that i only read and access now and again ive left them where they are. Massive improvements across the board. everthing just happens when you click it, no more "wonder what its doing in the background making it slow" moments....

Thanks for spotting the deal!
