Bought this drive during the £10 off £50 spend on Amazon not too long ago and can definitely recommend it for anyone who hasn't got an SSD or has a smaller SSD and feels like they need more space. However, if you've already got a similar sized SSD already, the speed difference is negligible so not worth getting this in that circumstance. Overall, good price for a good SSD.

Gone super hot previously so I’ve ordered one, thanks.
Not saying its a bad price (have some heat), but considering its been around £115 for the last month its hardly a scorcher.
Awesome deal thank you for posting, brought one for my MacBook and made a huge difference! Heat added!

£5 is £5

And that's why I voted hot, just saying not that special a deal.
It's probably account specific but Amazon offered me £6 back for buying a £30 gift card during checkout. Delay checkout, buy the gift card, wait a bit, another £6 off. Boom.
I'm new to all this upgrading hard drives to ssd, so can anyone tell me if this comes with system cloning software please?
I'm trying to upgrade the kids laptop to speed it up so any advice on ssd upgrades and the process from HD to ssd more than general googling it would be greatly appreciated.
Is it better to buy a 2.5" enclosure for the old HD drive to be used during and after upgrade or just an esata to USB cable? Do enclosures usually come with the same cable anyway, for example?
Thanks.

Use Macrium Reflect (free) to clone your system. As far as I'm aware, virtually all SSD drives comes with...just the drive. You need to source software solutions yourself. You'll probably need to buy a conversion kit (~£5)+caddy to fix the new 2.5" drive into place. Everyone should be upgrading to SSD these days, at least for their O/S

Nice. I normally buy Sandisk 240/480gb SSD and they come with nothing other than the default drive, so for newbies it's worth realising that there maybe additional costs in terms of installing a SSD with need for a i) caddy ii) mounting kit / cables and iv) software for either tranferring files for cloning O/S.

I don't know whether this Crucial MX500 comes with the accessories (mine delivered on Monday) but the description suggests not, so expect additional expense.

#Cloning software:

You can find more info on Crucial's website or forum:
uk.crucial.com/gbr…ted

forum.crucial.com/t5/…023

but I would recommend Macrium Reflect free as @ikonanddiva mentioned.

macrium.com/ref…ree

#old HDD:
If your kids laptop has a DVD drive then you can replace it with a HDD enclosure - google "replace laptop dvd with hard drive" (and can still use the dvd drive with a usb cable if needed). Not many use optical drives these days. Else you can buy a normal USB caddy as you mentioned.

Hope this helps

Cool, I got 3 MX500's delivered yesterday and I can confirm they come with small booklet, no accessories included.

SanDisk SSD PLUS 480 GB Sata III 2. 5-inch Internal SSD, Up to 535 MB/s @ £104.99 Amazon
Could the HUKD Whatsapp writer refrain from describing the price as "Banging"?

I know this SSD is fast - but you want it to last.

Ordered as I have been looking for one over the last few days. Heat added

Im new to it too and about to upgrade my laptop to SSD. Check out the Crucial Memory website (the people behind this ssd) not only will it tell you the exact type you can use but when you buy fron them it comes with free cloning software (might only be free if you buy the SSD from them). The also have step by step tutorials on how to do it all. Planning to do mine this weekend (got a mx500 250gb)

One question i do have if anyone knows the answer; Is there any noticable performance difference between A)cloning a hdd to ssd or B) a fresh install?

I'd guess a fresh install would always be better if possible but just curious if the difference in performance would be noticeable for the average user?

So for game play recording. The I use an SSD for the widows OS and installed games? And then a normal harddrive to record gameplay?
Bought similar drive now long ago to transfer all my HDD stuff over to SSD used the imaging software provided so simple and best thing I did in ages to speed up my computer. Did notice I started to get alot of blue screen errors when I started momentum cache like every few hours. I turned it off and since then system has ran perfectly.

help me sort mine out, after I did the cloning and restarted it. it keeps showing me windows recovery mode.
I just want it to boot normally 😔😔😔
I'm determined to wait for a quality 500gb for 100 quid or less.
They have now changed the price to £111.99
Not only is this a good price, but the product is excellent. I got it for £114 a couple of weeks back.

BTW If you are desperately clinging on, waiting for that last £10 to drop off to reach your £100 or less biting point, ask yourself - What's the point? You'll be waiting another 3 to 6 months when you could actually be using the drive now.

Unfortunately no optical drive but looks like a false fascia so hopefully some space behind there.
Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.

Yea you'll feel like you have a new laptop. My desktop was not bad and it had a 10k rpm raptor drive in from yrs ago but swapping to SSD was like using a tablet or phone. The boot times alone made it worth while for me

Personally I see it as a nice opportunity to do a fresh install. I know it's a bit more hassle but I'd rather just go for a fresh install.
Problem with these internal SSD drives is you can't tell if they are being written to properly because you can't even hear them! Complete waste of time. What's the point in a dirve you can't hear - how do you know your data isn't being lost. Stupid. Cold!

It's fine by me as I'm only using the second drive for storing data which is not used very often - video, music etc

Point is, it will be £10 less.

And I refuse to pay any more than that magical £100 after they artificially inflated the prices on these before.

Fed up with them screwing us over and am not alone.

Yea but think of the amount of time your likely to be saving using this over the next 6mths surely time saved in waiting alone would equal out to £10. You would hope not to mention less energy use etc...

This point appears to be lost so very easily on many people who are obsessed with prices now versus hypothetical reductions later, instead of utility now and not having, until a hypothetical point in the future.
