A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). not listed exactly, haven't got a video and in my machine so can't scan.
420 was the closest and according to crucial that won't take 4gb

Probably a waste of money as my 4GB is more than enough tbh but it just seems too cheap not to!

No, that clearly says you need DDR2 RAM, not DDR3.

never really understand how to configure RAM in the slots, with having 2x1GB atm would it be advisable to get another 2x2GB or what?
You could put a maximum of two of these in your system as it has a 8GB limit. You'll also want to be running a 64-Bit operating system.
Get 4x2GB, then they'll all match and you'll have your max 8GB overall and also it's hella cheap anyway.

does mixing the ram size/mhz/capability etc **** it up? like adding 2x2GB to my already existing 2x1GB or will it work perfectly fine still?
Only if you have a server. Most desktop motherboards won't even work properly with ECC RAM.
