Good find, nice price, heat added.
This is v4 not m4. V4 is very slow compared to m4 for £17 extra. M4 is the one to buy not this.
Speeds?

Pretty much the slowest ssd currently available to buy. Just about outperforms hdd when it's not freezing and hanging (http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/Crucial-V4-freezes/td-p/105744). Avoid, spend the extra for an M4.

I'm using it on 5 year old Dell laptop with no lockups using ubuntu 12.04. I use it daily for development, certainly makes difference over my old 160 gb 7200rpm HDD.

For people interested - If you use SSDs with ubuntu or other linux distro, make sure you enable TRIM support in /etc/fstab for OS to know that it is SSD.
It's very good for older PCs with SATA 3Gbps

You could've got an 830 for like £20 more. This is an average price for a slow drive I'd say so voted cold.

Whats the point in paying £30 more(not 20) if you are putting it in a older computer(sata2) and will not benefit.
This is a money saving site and by my reckoning thats throwing 30 quid down the drain.
Still you can show off to all your mates that you have a sata3 drive.

830's been less than 110 a few times, which makes most other offers sad in comparison. shame the deals aren't around anymore

The point is that you get with the Crucial M4 and the Samsung 830 much better proven reliability and if you ever should wish to migrate with your SSD to a new PC more speed is certainly desirable.
I've got a 2 year old Hp Pavilion DV6-2105ea core i5 and think its a sata 3 so is it worth getting a v4 SSD over a 500gb 7200rpm hdd? I'm tempted just to quieter the fan down and hopefully improve battery life a tiny bit! Would an M4 make any sort of improvement on performance I mean if the mono supports a sata 6?
Where the hell can you get an M4 for £119? Bull.

A sata 3 ssd will outperform even on old non sata 3 motherboards.Over 50% of tasks are 4k writes which are maybe 8mb/s on a rubbish ssd and maybe 40mb/s on a decent sata 3 - easily within sata 1 capabililties.
Changed to good quality SSD in low spec laptop Athlon II K345 dual core 4 g ram + windows 7 reinstalled
No real change in performance + all sorts of issues with scrubbing disk / cookies / LSOs with say Ccleaner.
Any advice welcome.
Its £94 at overclockers this week
decent price for 256GB, prices dropping everyday for SSD

Do you have it in AHCI mode? Does your motherboard even support it?
Thanks icehawk.
Yes AHCI enabled. Tried all usual stuff. The PC is faster but you need a stop watch to gauge the difference. May be better in modern flying machine.
Crucial v4 (256GB) Review

"random speeds are awful to get straight to the point"
Good article explains why.
Thanks.
Laptops don’t last forever should work better in next one.
