Integral 120GB drives (P Series/V Series/V Series v2 - good reliable drives) were so cheap when they were first released, circa £25.
120GB tend to be slightly slower than 240/250GB Drives.
Two years ago, yep. At this point in time, stick to buying a 240GB/250GB SSD.
The MX500 drive has built in encryption as standard, which helps in terms of resale.

It's resale is worth more. (Always use Crucial's free Storage Executive tool to sanitise/erase the drive before resale, otherwise don't sell it, i.e you're selling it as a result of a faulty laptop)

There is a potential £6 off £30, if you buy an Amazon gift voucher (and email it to yourself).

So £64.79 potentially from Amazon (if eligible for gift voucher, most aren't, but worth a try).

Just to add it might now be worth waiting till next week now - Jan 20th, Amazon usually give £10 off, due to winning the annual customer service awards. Thinking ahead.

(Assuming prices don't go up to compensate)
Edited by: "tightar5e" 13th Jan

Could I just buy a much cheaper 120gb or long term am I as well paying the extra £20 or so for something like this?
120gb tend to be worse value £/Gb ... I suspect all the main brands will be completely phasing them out , soon..

I'd buy 250GB if you are lazy at moving files over to another hard drive. If you aren't then 120GB is fine!

Thanks OP. Can anyone please recommend a caddy to go with these 7mm HDD?

Fitted one to my Toshiba laptop earlier this week. Was about to bin it as it was extremely slow even after a full factory reset. Since fitting the SSD drive it has been totally transformed. It boots up fully in about 10 seconds compared to about 2 mins previously. A full virus scan for example takes about 15 mins compared to over an hour with the previous standard hard drive.
A bonus was that the 1 tb hard drive I took out is now been used as a spare external hard drive once fitted to a external hard drive enclosure.

I need to get a ssd just to help with boot times on my home pc- is this one at amazon better / worse? Not trying to undermine OPs work but clueless on current technology

Bought this and returning my standard crucial 240gb SSD I got from Amazon. Not used it yet but this just seems a better solution, more memory and goes directly into my X370 Mobo.

For this money you can buy a Samsung SM961 256GB NVME M.2 ssd which although smaller in capacity is MUCH faster.....

Nope, you would have to get an PCI expansion slot if you want to use m.2.

You would need a PCIe adapter and I very much doubt it would be a bootable drive in that system.
So better off buying the 2.5 inch SATA version which is cheaper, doesn't require an adapter and is bootable.

Nothing foul mouthed about what I said. I guess the truth is considered foul to some sponging and give nothing back folk like yourself.

If a deal posted on here makes you or anyone else on here angry I suggest therapy is the only resolution for you. See that particular deal I posted a few comments further up

Personally I see no reason to crucify a guy who has posted to give someone a heads up on a voucher email that so many of us appreciate the heads up on when it's Argos or Ebay. This is the first time though that I've seen tears before bed time.

Right now the Op has posted 5 deals, some of which were well received. You've contributed a flat zero. Give the guy a break. It's probably not wise to be stood up in your glass house right about now

The pound was 1.22 $ in June of last year, and has since been strengthening. (today about 1.35$) . New demand apart, can you tell how much of the production has also been ramped up parallelly? Also the new entrants from China should have helped meet some of this demand? SO that logic also doesnt hold much water. It is pure profiteering and cartelisation. Micro Sd cards, Sd, and USb drives have all fallen in price (thay are also flash memories ie commodities, and also facing brexit winds) .So something stinks & needs investigation by the authorities. Definitely price fixing at work here.

In previous years, prices of RAM / NAND shoot up with the increased demand of new products in growth markets (smart phones, tablets, smart tv's, smart <anything>) and new consumer demand (new models, Christmas). Think of all the OOS graphics cards because of ethereum, monero mining etc. at between 4GB and 11GB per card = up to 60GB per mining rig.

Finally someone not speculating and writing they own opinion, but showing facts.

Parallelly. Nice word

All migrated Ok - one laptop needed two attempts - not sure why the first attempt failed. Guy at work just migrated his Windows 7 desktop PC to an SSD he got during the Amazon Black Friday sale - he said it went smoothly. As long you dont accidentally pick the wrong source and target drive, you are not going to mess up you existing HDD.There are a bunch of free migration tools out there - I have used Macrium and Easeus, guy at work used Acronis. EDIT: Actually did 4 migrations - as I replaced my main laptop a few months ago.Just remembered: The one area you may have difficulty is if your current HDD is not using AHCI mode in the BIOS and you need to switch to AHCI. Check you current BIOS settings and if your HDD is already set to use AHCI then you dont need to worry.

Just wanted to say thanks for the comment, my SSD arrived today and I successfully installed it this evening with generally little trouble, I used easeus and it worked perfectly with everything booting up as it should so once again thank you!

Ordered two of these and they've just arrived - great service!!

Hey aceshigh - Yes I just did that and they responded asking me for the name of the person that had their unit replaced and they may be able to sort something out, would you mind PM'ing me? Thank you so much!
