The DLC can be had for free as long as you pick it up before the 9th of the month.

Description
Little remains of those settlements where the Black Death has passed through. Hasty burials make a mockery of the sacraments and set a feast for the crows. Once prosperous provinces have been laid waste, and the lord of the land hides away – secluded in his hilltop fortress, hoping the plague will pass him by. Wiser princes took precautions, and didn’t waste the revenues from more prosperous years.
But, in time, all must pay The Reaper’s Due.

3418547.jpg
The Reaper’s Due adds a host of new mechanics centered on the Black Death and other world shaping epidemics. Lock your gates to keep the plague from infecting your court, even if it means cutting yourself off from your suffering citizens. Peace and good management will see your provinces reward you with greater wealth and manpower, but constant war and disease may depopulate your countryside.

The Reaper’s Due introduces many new systems and features to what is already the richest medieval tapestry in gaming:

The Black Death:New additions to epidemic system include this super destructive disease and a new map mode that track the expansion of deadly illnesses.

Court Physicians:This new position for learned courtiers opens up a series of events tied to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases with medieval tech.

3418547.jpg
Hospitals:Slow down the spread of epidemics by investing in these outposts that care for the sick and infirm.

Prosperity and Depopulation:Watch your provinces thrive under your careful attention and degrade under the pressures of diseases run amok.

Hope it helps someone.

If anyone has a good LP'er who can do a good few hours intro to the game it'd be much appreciated. I can do Civ but I find this one's tutorial doesn't click for me.
Thanks Mat..

The tutorial is kind of out of date now. People say to watch Arumba, he’s not my cup of tea but he is recommended by the community

There is a guy I watched called J2JonJeremy who used to post walkthroughs on YouTube. He was an excellent explainer and got me into the game.
Cheers for both recommendations. Will give them a look and set aside a few hours for it.
I started with Many a true nerd.. suggest you watch his play though of cornwall start... he is as clueless as most newbies... but you watch him pick things up and you will too

What timing in giving away a DLC about an epidemic. Were they expecting the gaming press to pick up on this and give them some publicity?

I'm surprised no one has already made a corona mod for this

Not sure coronavirus would work very well in the game, a bad case of the flu hardly in the same league as the Bubonic Plague.
OOPS, SORRY!

Spanish flu killed more then black death (total deaths not % population though). Just saying.

Indeed, but you said a Coronavirus mod not a Spanish flu one. That was a very bad case of the flu.
Thanks. This was one of the missing DLCs I did not dare to buy. Let's see how it hits in my next run of CK2.
It seems they are making it free step by step - probably a technique to bring more players in to buy the CK3 which is due this year.
How do you get this? It keeps giving me an error message when I try

The game has dancing plague, so...y'know...

As for the above "making it free step by step". Yea, seems that way to me too. I think they're trying two different models to deal with the awfulness of their current DLC model putting customers off buying.
With EUIV they're trialling a subscription system, where you pay monthly; with CK2, it seems they're going with "give it away in bits and pieces".
This one's a bit weird - if you use the Steam client and go to the DLC page via the Store search, you can't get the free DLC at all (says it's £3.99). If you follow the "Get deal" link (and are logged into the Steam web site at the time), then you get an invalid URL error message from Steam, but then checking the DLC Web page shows the DLC was indeed added. Restarting the Steam client then also shows the DLC is in your library. So the moral of the story is "follow the Get deal link and ignore the error".

Anyone getting the"error" message - you need to "play" the base game (not proceed with installation, just hitting play is enough) at that point Steam accepts that you have the base game so can "buy" the expansion and the error goes away...

Thanks!

Sadly, I couldn't find a way to start play it on my Android so didn't get round to it before yesterday's deadline. And It turns out that another free game I bought a while back I hadn't bought, I had only liked. It's annoying that steam is a bit crap in its UX.

Really, just looked and have read it was between 10 and 20% mortality and the young and the fit died almost as much as the very young and old, not just an odd exception as with coronavirus. Currently in the UK it is about 2% mortality.
