Was looking at battery chargers for my car. Found this one, seems to be the cheapest on ebay (and £5 odd pound cheaper than amazon). It arrived really quick and works perfectly, thought some people might be interested.

the lidl one will do the same job (and also charge 6v batts) for a fraction of the price - £13.

What does this do that a normal battery charger (for about £15) can't? Am I missing something.

Much better Quality, these will last absolutely ages. Plus this is 5amp not 3.8amp so is useful for larger batteries also. I know its not the cheapest but it is the cheapest you can get THIS charger for :-)

Has a patented charging pattern to maintain the battery better and i trust this more to be left on rather than a £15 one!

heat, ctek are good quality chargers

I have 1 of the. They are great chargers. With extra cables you can leave on your battery.

I have given heat because I have one these. In fact I paid about £10 more just before Xmas from Amazon for one. However, I needed it at the time so I'm not really troubled.

These chargers can 'desulphate' a battery that is feeling a bit poorly. So, if your battery is seemingly dying, try charging it with one of these. It may bring it back and give a few more years of life. Desulphation is not some gobbledegook techno babble designed to part consumers from their money, it really does extend the life of a car/motorcycle battery. It pulses a high current through the battery and literally shakes the deposits off the plates that make the battery. On top of this, the Ctek chargers will put a full charge into a battery and then switch itself off. When the power level drops to a certain point the charger will automatically turn itself on again. You can safely leave a battery hooked up to a Ctek charger which is something you cannot do with an ordinary charger. There are other, similar chargers on the market but having researched them I found them to be far more expensive for no extra use or quality.

Exactly and for something that you are often going to leave untended for many hours i feel its better paying for the extra quality in piece of mind in this particular case. But quality, buy once (and don't burn your house down)

I bet the CTEK and the Lidl are made in the same Chinese factory

(Primark and Nike clothes are also made in the same factory, actually in the same room, see the documentary).

The Lidl charger claims to do all these things.

Im sorry but this is incorrect, you simply cannot compare. CTEK make branded chargers for Porsche, Betley and Rolls Royce, selling them for over double the price. This is cheap for a quality product, a simple google will reveal how highly regarded these are and are often purchased by exotic and classic car owners. These are not overpriced status symbols like branded clothes, these are quality.

Heat from me - the best charger you can get for a very good price. I got the XS3.6 a couple of years ago.... Came top of a recent Autoexpress test.
This model has even more different charge cycles than the 3.6 including one to recondition failing batteries to make them last OK for a bit longer....

We have the same issue when people post cheap £2.99 headlight bulbs on here from Lidl - they can't comprehend that some bulbs are of different quality and light output to others...

Brilliant chargers, I got a Ctek about this time last year for my caravan leisure battery, after making the mistake of buying a cheaper streetwise unit, which like the Lidl charger 'looked' similar to a Ctek only cheaper. However although it was the correct rating, and suitable for leisure batteries, it only lasted 2 weeks, and then burnt out, literally, lucky I didn't have a fire!
The Ctek has been able to not only revive the battery after a long period of no use (about 9 months), but also keeps it in a healthy state over the winter months, and with the price of decent leisure batteries, I consider the Ctek a brilliant and reliable piece of kit for the price.I have heard a lot of people mention about the Lidl unit also being pretty good, but the Ctek is without doubt the best quality for the money.
