This is the latest feature laden, flagship offering from Cubot, who have now gone into the higher end of the mobile phone market. The Cubot Power, sports the latest version of Android and is bloatware free. The specifications for this phone are certainly impressive and bang for your buck, this must be one of the best deals around...

For some time, I've been in the market for a new mobile and was just about to pull the trigger on a Vernee, when this came along. The launch price has been heavily discounted and that's what sold it for me. Yes, you may get hit by customs, however, I've factored this into the discounted price and it still looks like a cool deal.

CUBOT POWER is a phablet with 5.99 inch display affords you a vivid and different visual experience. Dual cameras, 8.0MP front camera and 16.0MP rear camera, you can enjoy images with high resolution. It comes with most of the features we've come to expect from a phablet, including 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM storage equipped with Android 8.1 OS and 6000mAh big capacity battery so that you can play games faster. The all importand band 20 is there and there's even a proper 3.5mm headphone jack, dual nano sim with the option to add up to a further 128mb memory card. It also includes the latest 4.2 version of Bluetooth. If NFC is a deal breaker for you, then read no further, sadly, it's not included. The Cubot Power featurs the very fast Helio P23 Octa Core 2.5GHz, which is highly efficient and coupled with low power consumption.

Main Features:

CUBOT POWER 4G Phablet 5.99 inch Android 8.1 MT6763T Octa Core 2.5GHz 6GB RAM 128GB ROM Fingerprint Sensor 16.0MP Rear Camera 6000mAh Built-in

Display: 5.99 inch 2160 x 1080 pixels screen
CPU: MT6763T ( Helio P23 ) Octa Core 2.5GHz
System: Android 8.1 Oreo
Storage: 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM
● Camera: 16.0MP ( interpolation to 20.0MP ) rear camera + 8.0MP front camera ( interpolation to 13.0MP )

● Feature: GPS, AGPS, GLONASS, BDS
● Bluetooth: 4.2
● FM radio
● 6000 mAh (5V/2A fast charge)
● Available in 2 colours Black or Blue

There's little doubting, you get a lot of phone for your money and I've put my money where my mouth is and ordered one.

What is a 6P lens? Is that good for photo? Any stabiliser?

It's how much they spent on it.

Agreed, it'll be a deal breaker for some. So many of these Chinese phones …Agreed, it'll be a deal breaker for some. So many of these Chinese phones are released without it However, it won't be a "must have" for everyone.

I don't get the NFC thing at all; couple of years ago kids at university told me 'turn NFC off' (don't know why, but they know a lot more about these things than I do, so ok), then I read lots of comments on hukd phones deals where peeps don't want phone without NFC. :/

I don't do internet banking, and I did get quite confused with the contactless card payments, so perhaps kids just don't think I can handle the NFC thing.

Fair do's, managed fine without it for the last 60+ years, probably something else I don't actually need, but yeah, NFC Not For Codgers.

Sounds like great value for money.

One minor quibble being that it doesn't accept two SIM cards and an SD card simultaneously.
Ooh that looks like a bargain. Not the fastest processor but for the money I don't think it really matters...

Same spec as my brilliant Vernee X (only with a smaller battery compared to the Vernee's 6200Mah)

Don't worry about the Helio P23 CPU, easily as fast day to day as a Midrange Snapdragon, I've never seen any slowdown

I usually get 3-4 days heavy use(5 days light use) out of the Vernee Battery

should be a great phone and you'll wonder why you ever payed big brand flagship prices...

Like you, I've been around for 60+ years. My current phone, which I've owned for 18 months does have NFC and I've not used it once. I'd made my mind up on the Vernee V2 Pro, however, given the Cubot was forty Quid cheaper, had twice as much ROM and what appears to be a very good Samsung camera, in the end, it was an easy choice to make...
Yep, I gave it heat, as it seemed to tick a few boxes.
I'm still using an LG G4; kids think it's wasted on me as I don't use it for much more than talking, texting and taking photos (occasionally) - they say there is so much more it can do, but hey ho.

Wife needs another phone (she knows even less about mobile phones than I do), she's still using original moto g, and it's not working as well as it did.
This phone may be just a bit too big for her little arthritic hands, but it does look nice, and it seems good value for money, so it's a 'possible' at the moment.

It has 128GB internal storage, surely you can make do? Most phones have hybrid slots these days, I think if you see the ones that don’t then the trays are incredibly flimsy and long that’s why they tend not to do it. You can have two physical slots but then it’s another mechanical opening and more to waterproof (if the phone has that).

Check this Cubot for malware when it arrives. Camera looks weak (the mere mention of interpolation puts me right off) but it won’t be a deal breaker for some.

The camera seems to be one of the phones strong points...

Wow, 6000mAH?!

Any customs for this and how much if so?
"6000mAh big capacity battery so that you can play games faster." How is the battery related to the speed of games?? Also, when most of the phones these days are around 6'', what is a phablet?

Spiel/ jargon .

If I say it's power efficient you want to buy it. Problem is the processes isn't the most efficient making the incredibly large battery inefficient

im debating to bite the bullet, but just not sure of the custom and other hidden charges when purchasing from China.

It appears to be something of a lottery. The original discounted price was just over £183. The phone was further discounted to £168.08. As I stated in the original post, factoring the heavy discount into the purchase price, would go a good way toward any additional charges, should you fall foul of Customs. At the end of the day, it's still a lot of phone for the money...
Thanks toxic, any idea what the charges will be approximately so I can factor in the purchase?
or if anyone else can help.

thanks
Why do Cubot feel the need to software interpolate the cameras... Really annoying!

I've never purchased a phone from Hong Kong before, so I'm waiting to see what happens. However, if you are asked to cough up, I suspect there will be VAT, plus whatever the the shipping company charges to collect it. Therefore, I would set aside somewhere in the region of £40. No doubt there are other members of hotukdeals, who can give a more precise answer, so I stand to be corrected. HTH.

I know no better than toxic waste, but from a quick google trying to find out, there would be customs import tax at around 2.5% plus vat on the full total including shipping ect, so close to 25% on top so £40 would be about right, but the courier company royal mail fees to collect appear to be in the £10-15 range, so probably £50 - 55 in total. If this was from a uk warehouse it would be a no brainer, still undecided though.

Well, if it gets through without any customs or VAT charges, it makes this a very sweet deal. As Dirty Harry would say, "are you feeling lucky" Anyhow, the clock is ticking and unless they extend the offer, it's make your mind up time

10 watt charger on a 6000 mAh battery equals an all night charge, thats kind retro.
Future support is the thing with these type of oem's, they tend to build and abandon.

Charge for an hour then
Impressive specs but I'd only ever get Snapdragon phones. Way better processors than Helio etc!
Because the cheap camera they've put in has a poor resolution and they want to make it sound like better than it is, same as whenever they interpolate

What do you know about it, but anyway there isn't much difference. For the price this is very powerful, in fact powerful by any standard. It's all the phone 95% of people will ever need

Wrong. It's a genuine 16 mega pixel camera but through interpolation gets up to 20mp. The camera is genuinely high resolution and good quality
It's cheap because it has malware pre-installed on the system. I'm not sure whether it's possible to root the phone to get rid of the malware, as it's on the SystemUI.apk file

For those worried about customs, I bough an Elephone S8 from Gearbest in November last year, phone was £180, and I was charged £25 in customs duty, including the ludiscrous charge DHL apply for paying it for you.
