Unfortunately we get the usual misinformed comments.

The Now TV box for £9.99 does not include a 1 day sports pass. The free trial is a for one month of movies.

Having said that, this price is the standard price and is the same that Asda and Sky themselves sell the box for. Not really a deal, just a sensible price for a decent product.

Ignore them. They know nothing.

A lot of mis-information flies about these NowTV Boxes .. but thry be proper decent still!! .....

Not sure if anyone is aware, but .. these Sky Branded NowTV Boxes are re-Branded ROKU Smart TV Boxes? (Cost 3/4/5 times the Price of what you see here now!) ..there's ROKU 1, 2, & 3 .. i'm assuming this is the slightly Cheaper re-Branded ROKU 1 Box?. :-)

Decent Offer whichever way you look at it still?. :-)

Yes they are rebranded roku 1 box, plus all third party apps have been disabled. So all the channels you get on roku are NOT available on the the nowtv box.

NO they don't. Only company who sells them for a tenner (9.99) are sky

They are roku LTs actually, and yes all other paid streaming services are disabled. You can still use iPlayer, 4od, 5whatever plus a few others though, and can get plex on it too if you have a plex server. Buy direct from sky and get £2 topcashback too.

I don't think so. Sky are the only ones who sell them at 9.99, everyone else has to sell them with at least 1 day pass or 1 month pass at £14.99, it is part of the condition that sky have put in place. Also they are not allowed to put special offers on them

you can side load the Plex channel onto these and stream from a PC, can't remember how I did it now but plenty of guides out there I'm sure,

If you run a Plex enabled NAS or Server at home, these are fantastic value for money. I used to use a HTPC to show content from a Twonkyserver (DLNA) system, installed Plex, not only does it happily co-exist, but now I can use a low power NowTV box instead of the relatively hungry HTPC machine. I got mine with Quidco £2 cashback, so at £8 each I attached one to every TV in the house.

Sideloading is the easiest thing in the world to do engadget.com/201…ex/ and if you're on Virgin you may struggle with the wifi settings, but can fix that here engadget.com/201…ex/ go to post 8 for the answer to fix the problem.

If you want sports, then I'm guessing the plan is to sit down with a beer, in which case you can get a free sports day pass with special packs of Carling nowtv.com/pro…ing

Have you got a picture to prove you went into EVERY asda and shows the price above £9.99. Kin' Hell Wales. There's this thing called Call of Duty, it's where most disappointed angry men go to relieve their frustration on-line.

Don't need to. That is part of the condition that sky put into place to allow retailers to sell the NOW TV. That sky will be the only ones to sell the box on its own. Retailers can sell it but only as part of the movie/entertainment/sport package and at a price they stipulate.

All down to marketing.

NOWTV BOX a revelation. Reliable. We bought the argos entertainment package for 25. u get a box and 4 months entertainment package. we tried the one month movie package u get when u startup. kept it goin. bought extra box for a tenner from sky. can have up to four in a house. nowtv runs on android too but only on the handset / tablet not allowed output to an external screen. Great package.

A. I'm gonna call BS on that for the contradictions alone... and B. That's not marketing, marketing is advertising and research.

No you dozy fool, marketing is not purely about advertising and research. It is also about selling the end product. Why allow retailer to sell just the box at £9.99 when they can sell a more expensive product. Plus makes it easier for the customer to just go into a store, pick up the box and plug and start watching.

If you want plex on it, there is a nice guide here .

youtube.com/wat…WZc

Is this the same as Apple TV?

Erm yeah it is. You're on about sales. PMSL, you can turn your brain back down from 11 now.

Worth noting if you have BT vision that you can get this on demand with the free 30 day trial plus if you pay your first month movie pass in month 2
you can get £10 back through TCB so 2 months free movies and a profit of £1.01 !!

If you have a tablet or phone along with a nowtv box you can download "playto" on both device's and stream things like filmon channels and youtube to your nowtv box.

can u use one of these similar to a chromecast cos im needing something similar for second TV for streaming from my nas and playing/streaming YouTube and other stuff of my tablet.
thanks.

You are clearly stupid. Marketing - process of promoting, distributing and selling - process of moving goods from producer to consumer.

Stream from nas with plex, but not from your tablet unless you have a dlna server as well. Better to go for roku 3, but considering the cost, better to go for chromecast

In my personal oppinion, a NowTV Box, &/or a ROKU Box are a far better Deal for real?! .. thanx. :-)

PMSL…That would be SALES and Marketing. Like I said before when I said Sales…Rhymes with Wales.
Distribution comes under LOGISTICS. And Again for the cheap seats, Marketing is research, promotion, advertising etc.
They might all be connected, but that's like saying the fire dept is the police just because you ring 999 for them!

Hiya mate.
You can indeed! Works ok. A bit restrctive in the free version e.g u can only stream top 10 films per directory. also seems to struggle with extra nowtv boxes i.e how to tell it to use a different box. but the concept works.

If you use plex then it has a sort of playto thing built in, the app lets you choose which device to send media to. You still browse stuff on your phone/tablet, but the actual playing bit goes to the TV.

before i buy one, is there any way to stream things like cartoons hd to my tv as i can do from my tablet with my chromecast on my main tv.
thanks

Dunno, is that an android app? Maybe using playto?
