Not the best deal in the world because a lot of them are shop display models (unused, on a shelf basically) but I popped into my local Currys and they had one on display. I checked if there was any in the local region and most in the Bristol/South West had at least one in stock.

If you are on a budget and want a branded player, this may well hit the mark. Not perfect by any means but a good price for BD Live profile 2.0 player with onboard decoding for HD sound.

If you can wait a week i'd be happy to buy it and i'll post it down to you at cost (i'm in greece from early Tues til the following Tues).

Saw a slightly scabby display model in my local Currys at this price so nipped up the road to Comet, who gave me a nice new one at the same price. They phoned up first, but as it's a nationwide reduction in Currys (same as PCW) and not just ex-demo they matched the price. Worth a try

Good deal, I will have a look tomorrow. Hot

same applies to the sony 350, i got one boxed and brand new for 99.97. from hull pcworld, and they had more in the back.

would have prefered the panny really , would match me tellie. Anybody who picks up a panny and would prefer the sony for a swap. let me know

i take it u cant check online if your local store has any ?

thanks

If you can live without youtube and the other rubbish currently sprouting off many blueray players, this is the best your going to get under a £300 pioneer. The blueray and dvd upscale picture quality is stunning. Sound is rather good too but sony pips it on cd playback. Check reviews they all pretty much state the same. Load time is a pain but this is std at the moment unless you buy an inferior samsung model which do load quick but just arnt as good.

Interesting that review picked up on the one point that annoyed me about the player after just 5 minutes of use - the lack of a DVD 'MENU' button.

Otherwise, it's a class machine.

When people moan about loading disk speed.... is that the speed of the bar that says "loading disk" - on my pc it takes about 3 seconds... how long on a bluray player?

The Blu-Ray playback on this will be as good as any other player, regardless of price. This will of course depend on how well your display is set up.
And unless you go for the US only Oppo BDP-83, you'll struggle to get better DVD upscaling too.

As for Samsungs players being inferior, that's not true at all. They make very capable players that can match the others in their price bands.
Don't believe everything you read in What HiFi. They're still convinced expensive HDMI cables can give better picture and sound quality than cheap ones, after all. ;-)

This player has good support too, with regular firmware updates coming from Panasonic.

Get a LG BD370 instead. It plays Divx from USB and will handle the ever popular .MKV format too. I'm not saying paying the extra £50 makes the LG a hot deal, but this deal isn't any hotter imho.

With this Panny you'll have to keep burning discs to watch even short DivX HD or SD clips.

Don't believe anything you read in What Hi-Fi Sony Vendors. The journalists have a cretinous adherence to all sorts of nonsense about cables and other components.

No stock in Curry's at Carlisle, 5 in Comet next door but wouldn't budge from £199.95

Down to 79.97 now but mainly ex-display single units left
