Great Product for the price!!
If you're looking for a cheap 5:1 surround sound system this is unbelievable quality. It was a bit of a fiddle to start up, that's why I'm only giving it 4, but the sound quality whilst linked to my ps3 and xbox 360 is outstanding! A must buy, highly recommended by yours truly !

Would I be able to use the speakers with a separate amp?

e.g hotukdeals.com/ite…19-

I would not recommend it.

This is not the greatest system in the world, but the great thing about it is the price, ideal for a bedroom setup or for people on a tight budget a living room setup. if your going to buy a premium amp you might as well get premium speakers

I agree, if you want a rubbish...ahem...budget sound system then this is ideal! im sure curtis and onkyo systems are probably made in the same factory anyway ;-) like skoda and volkswagen

Skoda is actually becoming quite popular now

Good price for a budget system..

Skoda's are very popular, more so then VW's.

VW, AUDI, SKODA, SEAT are part of the same group = Same quality and share same engines, switches etc just a badge difference really.

SEAT ALHAMBRA, VW SHARAN, FORD GALAXY = Tdi's All the same, all Tdi's run VW Engines clearly stamped on the engine VAG and the Audi logo, developed together...

Yeah, Skoda have changed a lot in recent years. Pretty good cars nowdays.

I love how its surround sound and people are talking about skodas.

Well, at least I know that a Skoda may be a good car to think about after getting my licence. Now, if only I knew if these speakers were worth getting, I wonder if someone is talking about it somewhere. :whistling:

have you tried here www.whatcar.com

I just bought because I bought a LCD TV which apparently all have terrible sound, these may not be any better but I will see. Review on amazon US shows they are average which is what I was expecting. H+R for OP.

Heat and Rep added. For 40 quid u cant go wrong.

I took a review from Zavvi and put it in the description... This guy thinks they are worth getting

can get it slightly cheaper using the £5 off code, when spending over £40 (]http//ww…-40), just add something cheap to make full use of discount.

My advice is to save your money and buy something half descent, i havn't got one of these personally but the quality of the unit in the pictures looks terrible, so my guess is the sound is just as bad, just keep looking... i've got a sony multi channel av reciever STR-DG500 with sub which i bought for £40 and a pair of jbl 1xtremes which i bought for £10 and a pair of tannoys for £30 and a pair of bang and olufsons for £30 and the sound is incredible so just look harder and don't settle for something this awful

Can anyone recommend a half decent mid price 5.1 Obviously this is low end, but can't really afford an Onkyo...

Cheers

What audio inputs does this take then? Cant see it listed.

Was just thinking the same thing, i can't see how this could connect to an Xbox without an optical in?

Read the reviews, a lot of people say the quality is good. just because its 40 quid doesnt mean its terrible!

You are obviously a very arrogant person

Apart from the fact that your system is nearly 3 times the price of this Curtis, I also think you are being almighty arrogant!! Not everyone has over £100 to spend on a home theater system.

Although this is not my cup of tea either as it has no optical/hdmi inputs. If you want a 5.1 surround sound dvd player, I dont think you can go wrong with this system for that price!!

Heat and Rep added!

Here is link to the manual for anyone thats interested,

Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to have any inputs but does strangley have an optical out....
All the inputs are on the sub. I was looking for something to boost the puny sound from my LCD but this just misses the mark, although for a dvd system with sound for £40 it seems good value. It's even got component video out which is great.

Good Buy for someone, whether they have a Skoda , VW or a Rolls !!!!

Video doesn’t translate exactly from source material to displays. In other words, if you are viewing material in 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, there is some scaling occurring. Very few displays operate at the native resolutions of the source material.

The argument that is often made for the DVI or HDMI signal formats is the “purely digital” one – Meaning that there is a perfect no loss of information signal chain with HDMI signals. However, this is not true since these signals have to be scaled and processed in order to be displayed. There are always conversions going on, and they aren’t always easy going. It’s hard to say which is better between the HDMI and component video formats unless you physically view each one for your own eyes to see which looks best for your equipment.

Also, before making any judgments, make sure the display settings for the different inputs (HDMI or Component Video) are the same. They often have different brightness, black levels, etc. and need to be recalibrated.

you have to have a very decent component cable to competer with a £1 HDMI cable.

a good test was Xbox 360 HDMI arcade pack. i had the same resolution as HDMI via component. as soon as i plugged it in via HDMI. picture was more solid, brigher & colour was more stronger. they should've had HDMI on xbox 360 from the start, or at least DVI as its microsoft & they hav DVI on all the PCs

HDMI picture is much better than component as i compare it using my xbox and dvd player.. using my lcd TV. Much more clearer and vivid..

sorry for asking a basic question, but do you have to be watching a DVD to use these or would they work just watching TV?

i love this forum, people love filling this with so much info, you can actually make an informed decision after reading peoples input, hot for the deal.
