How can it be made to measure off ebay ??????

It's made to the measurements you provide. Even if you go to Saville Row to buy a bespoke suit, the person who makes your suit is generally not the person who measured you up for it. The only difference here is that a third party is doing the measuring.

I've just been through the measurements checklist and it is pretty comprehensive.

Their ebay feedback is pretty good. But seriously, a quality bespoke suit for £80? Can it be done? I'm not so sure.

hmm dunno .....guy i knew who is retired now worked in Austin Reeds for Years and Years .......and he told me .......whatever you do NOWADAYS just buy it off the peg and get it taken up (if you can) in most cases usually arms and legs unless yer an octopus cause the measurements for bespoke suits are only as good as the person that measures you...... he said the amount of embarrassing moments he had fitting suits that had been hand measured for someone and it wouldnt fit Ronnie Corbett......and the price £££££...as they say ye pays yer money ye takes yer chances......and 10/1 most ...i say most people wouldnt know a bespoke suit if they fell on one.......and if yer like me its weddings and funerals....mostly funerals now.....:|

Thanks very much.
I've bookmarked that, for future reference.

Just pop to Vietnam and get one made, much more fun, and about the same price.

Anyone know a good place to get made ot measure shirts? I've tried TM Lewin, Charles Tyrwhitt, but they're not really made to measure, they just basically let you choose arm/neck size... I've got a 16.5" neck, but only a 38-40 chest.

Everytime I get a made to measure shirt (or otherwise) it seems the industry thinks if you have a 16+ inch neck you have the chest of a gorrilla.

Custom, made to measure AND bespoke? Put the thesaurus down, Damien. X)

That's a very good price. I have done a made-to-measure suit before from another company and it cost triple that price. It ended up still in my closet. Unless you can get your measurements taken by tailors, you shouldn't do it because it'll just end up wrong.

£79 is a great price and I was tempted to give it a go. But I'm not sure even if they get the fit right, I would want to be out wearing the same quality of suits they have in their eBay photos.

Their positive feedbacks are astounding though.

Worth a punt for 80 quid. Dk blue wool pinstipe and red lining WOW!

It's £83, not £79 as the thread title says

Read the listing - does not include VAT or shipping, so the end cost will be over £100 to start with for the cheapest suit, plus a 4-6 week wait. Fair enough, still cheap for what it is.

However, not sure what "tropical wool" means and there are various interpretations. If it is genuine wool, then it is a superfine and lightweight wool. Usually costs a fortune off the roll. According to the listing the premium suits are only "wool rich", which is odd.

Other info care of the interweb gives me this:

- Although many ltwt wools are firmly woven and easy to sew, most will … - Although many ltwt wools are firmly woven and easy to sew, most will fray badly if overhandled.- Some are transparent and should be handled accordingly.- Puckered seams and skipped stitches are sometimes a problem.- Lightweight wools are easily marred by too-large needles and ripping.- Seam slippage may be a problem at stress points.- All are easy to shape with heat and moisture.- Ltwt wools are easily damaged with improper pressing techniques.

Dunno, still seems too good to be true although not one for dry cleaners. Luckily, I don't live too far from their shop, so I might pop in and take a look at some finished articles.

yep would agree.

I worked at Hugo Boss, I would find a size that fits and then depending on the cut would pin the suit for alteration, thus giving the client a good idea of how it would look/ fit.

Wouldn't surprise me if that's where these suits are made tbh! It does say "All the suits are hand tailored in our tailoring facility in South Asia"...

Vietnam is definitely the place to go for cheap tailoring though, a 3 piece suit in very nice (premium) fabric can be had for ~ $200-250. Most of the tailors there will also accept e-orders and you can e-mail in any time with your measurements to have further items made and shipped over.

(and yes don't forget that shipping costs can be pretty hefty so must be added on top of this deal price).

M&S have started doing made to measure. You design your shirt on their website, input your measurements and they make the shirt to that exact specification. Prices from £45!

T.M. Lewin and Charles Tyrwhitt aren't made to measure, they're off the shelf. The staff in those shops just have the courtesy to measure you up before you buy so that you get a decent fit (if you conform to their sizes). I have the exact same problem you do, 17" neck, 40" chest, 32" waist and I'm not sure with the arms (measured myself at 34", but I'd need to get someone to measure for me to be confident of that one).

I've used this place before.

Quality is about on a par with a £35-50 suit. If the fabric is indeed wool, it doesn't feel like it - it's very hard...I would say that even a 100% polyester M&S suit is of noticeably superior quality (anything but the cheapest 'outstanding value' range).

In addition, I've seen similar 'bespoke' suits on eBay for £59...so if you really want to take a chance, keep your eyes peeled.

hmm does seem too good to be true. I had one made in China for £70 and was quite please, but it was pretty standard design and fit. Would be curious at what type of wool they use exactly, and its weight. They do 3 shirts for £60 which might be worth a punt.

I need a suit for a wedding next year but i need to lose 3 stone first lol

I have exactly the same measurements and I order the slim fit size from Charles Tyrwhitt (even though I'm not slim this combination works a treat - you can always send it back)

They sound much the same as my measurements. I thought the M&S ones were just certian measurements as opposed to full flexibility? I had the impression they do this "computer predicted measurements" based on a few specific things... maybe I have that wrong, i'll check it out. It's a pain mind, as it means I have to pay £45 for a shirt rather than £20 (ish)

Really? It's been a while since I tried to be fair, maybe I'll have a go again. I think a 38-40" chest and a 32" waist is pretty slim myself

Typical of fools who don't understand good old style tailoring. The clue to what a joke this is shows in the title - "made to measue bespoke" - it can only be made to measure OR bespoke not both - two very different things. Made to measure seems to be what is on offer here - i.e. suit is made to your specific measurements. Bespoke is a far more personal experience where you select the fabric, lining, stitching etc then get measured, a basic template is produced, you return, try this on, some is added,/taken away, you go back, and back, and back until it's perfect. Good quality bespoke starts at £1000. Good quality made to measure about £500.

I just checked the M&S site and it's only height, weght and collar size, so I assume they predict your other measurements/ Seems a bit hit and miss to me...

Yeah, I hadn't tried it when I posted in this thread. Doesn't work to well on the iPad. Gave it a go earlier on the PC and it's pretty lame. I was expecting 'made to measure' to mean 'made to measure', not 'made to estimated measurements gathered from your height, weight and age'. Maybe the results are good, but I don't fancy spending £45 on the off chance.
