But Which here (which.co.uk/news/2020/04/hand-hygiene-soap-and-sanitiser-gel-what-you-need-to-know/) says:We checked the main high street brands and Carex has the highest alcohol content, according to the information on the label:- Carex hand gel – contains 70% alcohol- Cuticura hand gel – contains 66% ethanol*- Dettol hand gel – contains 63% ethanol*If you have a Cuticura product, you might notice that on the label it says it contains 56.7% ethanol. Just ordered. Thanks
Without putting this down - it does work out cheaper buying 5L Tubs elsewhere - although I appreciate that is a lot for some people!

This deal equates to £1.49 per 100ml, but I know at least one supplier offering 5l 70% @ £58.50, which equates to £1.17 per 100ml. (We go through sanitiser like mad at work, hence the 5Litres we buy multiples of at a time)

As I say though, based on the amount versus price, I am not putting this down so heat added

Bought it multiple times in past few months, was never prioritised for government. Also look at the reviews, multiple reviews by people in past couple of months.

nope its 66%

No it's 56%, the 66% is a completely different measure. The value that is printed on the bottle is 56% so that is the value people should be using.

  • Contains 57.6% alcohol w/w (66% alcohol v/v)
  • Alcohol content printed on pack by weight, but this converts to 66% by volume & is above min recommendation level
  • The CDC and WHO alcohol content recommendation of 60% is based on the volume measurement (v/v)

So the value is 57.6% alcohol. As advised the other value is a completley different measure which is not the measure they print on the labels.

When someone asks "isn't this 57% alcohol" , "isn't this less than 60% alcohol" then the answer to that question is, Yes yes it is.

When Carex say they are 70% alcohol they are using the same measure that Cuticura uses to say they are 57% alcohol. So this is the ONLY value that should be used to compare brands.

They are comparing completely different measurements.

Carex is 70% w/w
Dettol is 63% w/w
Cuticura is 56.7% w/w

If you want to use the 66% value for Cuticura then you should compare to the relevant value for Carex and Dettol.

He's not comparing brands, you are. I don't think Pompey_JT cares a bit if one brand is 2-3% more than the other, just as long as it's above what is needed. Which it is.

Don't know where you got that from but the carex and dettol figure uses the correct measurement of v/v not w/w. Only cuticura choose to display alcohol level as w/w the rest including carex and dettol display it the correct way using the v/v figure which is carex 70% v/v and dettol 63% v/v

It did say that around 3/4 weeks ago. I remember reading it when I was searching for some.

I only remember because I thought they could have simply hid the listing rather than make a point of what they needed it for.
