The Fire HD 8 Kids Edition from Amazon brings big fun at a tiny price. Designed for kids, this tablet comes with a durable, lightweight case and a 2-year guarantee that covers breakages, no questions asked. Fire is great for apps and games as well as reading books and streaming videos, while a robust design makes it a durable device to stand up to the stresses of every day life.

I've been using the Fire 7" one for 2 years now, and just purchased a 3rd one. Couldn't recommend them enough. I'm very cautious about letting my 3 and 4 year old online, but with the parents profile, I lock them out of that. The kids profile gives them access to what I want, and the years subscriptions gives them plenty of games and videos to keep them going. As for after the first years subscription, I just buy a new tablet every year, and when they are on offer, they work out cheaper that the monthly subscription. Insurance is great on them, although my claims were warranty issues, you just contact Amazon, they ask a few questions and try to troubleshoot the problem, and if can't be fixed over the phone, they send a replacement out (giving you a month to send the old one back).
If your kids are a bit older, you can set it up to make them do so much reading before the games get unlocked, although I haven't tested this myself, or seen what the games are like for older kids. But you can get a way to install Google play on them, and then you get all the contact available on the play store

Can anyone please, with a Fire 7 or 8 leave a review? Especially for kids use..
Would be helpful.

The thing I don't like about the fir is you need an additional subscription to prime for them to watch content... though with you this you get the 1st year free... It's not lots of memory but okay if intended for 1 child to use.

Literally charges extra for rubber case and some parental control available elsewhere, but more complicated to set up. Managed to have 16 GB 8" Zenpad for price of 7" version + Tesco vouchers.

You get a years subscription to Amazon kids too which makes all the games + bonus content free. Also loads of tv shows, films and books + the two year even if they break it warranty.

These are great value tbh with loads of included content tbh it’s a bit like Netflix for kids with games too...

Nonsense. It's easy to set up, and as it's a separate profile, you don't need to keep turning the parental controls on and off. You get the case, which my kids have thoroughly tested, 2 year worry free guarantee and a year access to the kids unlimited

After the first year if you don't susbribe to prime. Can they do much with the tablet? Want one for my 6 yr old but very undecided exactly what you can/can't do.

can you provide a little discount?

Does anyone know if the free subscription starts from the date of purchase or do you have to activate it. I want to buy one for my son but I am undecided whether to give it to him for Christmas or his birthday in March.

From date of Activation if i remember correctly.

Does anyone know if I were to do a factory reset, then use a new email would there be an option for a free years subscription to fire for kids again? If not il just buy another as works out around the same

How much is the annual subscription after the first year?

Is this not the fire 7 ? 8 is coming up at 89

It will work like a normal tablet. Only difference is, it has the amazon app store instead of google play. but a quick search online and you can get the instructions and files to install google play on it yourself (I've do it with the one that I use)

never tried it before, but I doubt it. I usually reset my devices once every couple of months, but never tried another email address, but normally I comes up before I add the email address

£3.99 for 1 tablet, or £7.99 for up to 4 (or theres discounts for Prime members). I usually just buy a new tablet, as it works out just as cheap

I ordered one of these yesterday and received my "service warranty" by email from JL today. The terms expressly say it does not cover accidental damage. That does not appear to be the same warranty Amazon are offering - i.e. a "no questions asked" replacement. I have emailed JL customer services asking for confirmation of their terms because they claim this is product/warranty is exclusive to JL and Amazon.co.uk and so that is clearly not the same thing.

I emailed JL with this query after purchasing. I think the conclusion was that I would need to go to Amazon directly in the case of accidental damage, however I think I'd argue this if it came to it!

These are great..

The thing im not sure on is the 1 year free content.

I still have free content and its well over 12 months old.

i do have prime but the website claims its an additonal cost to prime so god knows how i still have free content (vid, apps etc)

My little one loves it. Get the 8 for the better screen. If you have prime it’s a no brainier as there lots of free content if you want to watch things. The kids mode is great and I have set it so the little one (4) only get 1 hour screen time week days and 1.5 on the weekend. She normally likes to watch things on the iPad but she’s been loving the games on the fire 8. Also like the idea that I can set that she needs to do a certain amount of reading to release video time. 1.99 a month after for kids content if you have prime. Also really easy to install google play store with a online guide.

You need an Internet connection for videos to play and pre downloaded apps will work without an Internet connection, bear that in mind. You could easily install Plex and download your media via Plex for offline playback, I've done that and it works perfectly.

You get it discounted to £1.99 a month if you're a Prime subscriber

The product description for the tablet states:

"Designed for kids, this tablet comes with a durable, lightweight case and a 2-year guarantee that covers breakages, no questions asked."

As such it must come with the same warranty as Amazon offer - this is probably direct from Amazon themselves.

Why on earth would you purchase this for the same price from John Lewis when Amazon offer a no questions asked 2 year warranty replacement program. Cut out the middleman !!!!

Yes but I don’t pay 1.99 either

I bought an 2017 Ipad Pro 10.5" 256gb from them at the end of October for £709 and it came with 3 years Warranty. Now it's £719 with 2 years warranty......go figure

These are great. Daughter (aged 7) had hers for 2 years now and now got one for my son (aged 5) too. They love them and out of all the presents they’ve had over the years, these have been easily the best value for money. Literally hundreds of kids apps, some educational, some just for fun. Being that they use tablets at Schools now, i think everyone should get these for their kids. These kids versions also come with an accidental warranty, so if they smash the screen or spill a drink on it, its still covered by the warranty. Can also link to my Amazon prime account, so they can watch all the kids tv shows and films with no extra charges. There are parental control on these too, so the kids cant buy apps or movies without the parent putting in their password first. I would highly recommend these for all kids for all ages.

You will need to add a memory card at some point as the memory on these can get pretty full.

windta1ker1 h, 1 m ago

Surely you can delete the file? Yes the memory can get full, but its not hard to get a memory card cheap enough or delete some of the old content they don’t use.
