Do I need to play the previous 2076 games before this one?

There seems to be some confusion around what this actually means for Series X. They're not talking about simple backwards compatibility, that's a separate feature that's already promised, you will be able to play CP2077 on your Series X, no problem. However, certain games will get a Series X specific version of the game (like Call of Duty Ghosts was released on PS3, then again on PS4 as a separate game) that will allow players to play the version of the game meant for their console. So let's say you buy CP2077 at launch, and then it's backwards compatible on Series X. When the game gets re-released on Series X, not only is your game backwards compatible, it will automatically turn into the new Series X version so you've essentially upgraded your game to the new version without having to shell out for the game again.

Basically if you buy Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox One and then buy the Series X console the game will update to higher specs for free
So series x is doing remastered already. Oh happy days. Joke

Always happens. We had assassins creed black flag, last of us and GTA 5 to name a few. First year is always a bit mere..... Only one launch game is actually quite decent and next gen to a degree.

But I do second your comment
Forza 8 no doubt

Well it's not a remaster...

It's just you get access to the higher spec version that runs on Xbox Series X. So not a remaster as such.

Isn't all xbox series x games doing this anyway?
The future of gaming is to play the games that were released in the past. Great future, looking forward to doing the same ole thing during the next 2 decades, it's been a storm has these last 2 decades.

I know it's not a remaster. Just slight improvements. Just meant, that when a new console comes along, we get dual release/ updates on both systems. Very generic and nothing new.

More like the game will just look and run better on Series X by design, so will scale from base Xbox One through to Series X.

Doesn't seem exactly much of a deal tbh when you factor in this is above £40 or so and been available to pre-order around the same. The whole "Free for next gen" might be getting heat but there's been no details on how they're actually gonna deliver that just yet. Could be available for disk too.

Only thing I'd say is whilst this has happened in the past, usually when a new generation comes along - you have to pay for another copy.

When games came out at the back end of 360 life (GTA, FIFA etc.) you had to buy another copy to play on Xbox One and likewise for PS3 > PS4.
And whilst a free update like this was the norm for Xbox One > Xbox One X, this wasn't classed as a new generation console.

I'm hoping this is now going to become the norm - we shouldn't be paying for better looking versions of the same game - I applaud this approach by MS & CDPR.

I think with backwards compatibility being more of a common thing. Hopefully this will happen more. It's a nice gesture by the developer/ publisher. Makes people want to buy it more. Let alone they made the witcher 3.

Spot on with your comment mate
Seeing as both new machines PS5 and Series X are backwards compatible it just makes sense that you stick the Xbox One disc in the Series X machine (or download the files) and it just uses the graphics settings to match the machine it’s being played on. Hopefully the more greedy publishers don’t try and fund a way to monetise a simple update.

Really the discs for Xbox should just be branded as 'for Xbox', as they would work on any Xbox machine. Heck if any PC still had a disc drive in 2021 they should work there too.

No actual confirmation of when that will happen unfortunately, just that it will.
I fear for this game, how could it possibly live up the the hype. CDPR have a good record though.
It’s a different SKU on Series X. One thing to consider is save comparability No details on that yet although you would hope it would be a given.
does this free upgrade also work with physical or only digital buy?
