New customer discount didn't work with finale code.

Totally agree with bonzobanana, I've had Carrera, and a Voodoo in my collection, for the price, they are a solid bit of kit. You may want to change your tyres at worst but these bikes last!

Voted hot.

Since when we're carreras bad? I've had a couple and for price they're great. They aren't top of the range but at the price you will struggle to do better.

Ok what is your evidence for this because they seem to review well both professionally and by their owners and despite Halfords huge sales numbers in the UK don't seem to suffer recalls like other brands. When I've viewed the bikes in Halfords stores they seem very well made with no obvious problems and offer better components for their price point than almost all other brands. I suppose Carrera is Halfords middle quality brand with Apollo below and Voodoo above. A Carrera bike is never going to compete with much higher price branded models. Voodoo bikes are the best Halfords offer which probably can compete with bikes twice their price but not bikes above that level.

Halfords BSO for over £200 lol not really a deal. Spend a little bit more …Halfords BSO for over £200 lol not really a deal. Spend a little bit more and get a decent Specialized. Voted cold

A bit more like this one for example?

specialized.com/gb/…480

Absolute piece of junk BSO with a low end tourney derailleur and a freewheel FFS. Massively inferior to the Carrera Vengeance which at least can be taken off road. The same freewheel you will find on sub £100 bikes.

Bikes should be judged on their specification not the brand slapped on. If people took your advice they could end up with a massively inferior bike to the Carrera that only resembled a mountain bike and was only fit for road use and gravel and not much else.

Also that Specialized page clearly shamelessly lies to its customers. It has the heading 'Cassette' and then lists a freewheel. A freewheel is not and never has been a cassette. An attempt to make their junk bike read better than it is I imagine. The fact is entry level bikes from top brands are often complete trash. You probably have to pay twice as much just to get a similar spec to the Carrera.

Also look at that specialized spec. It has a 7 speed front derailleur plus an 8 speed chain! It seems to be going out of its way to b***sh*t its customers. Who cares if the chain is 8 speed compatible when its fitted on a 7 speed freewheel bike and they don't even say 8 speed compatible its just 8 speed listed. They seem utterly desperate to sell what is an appalling bike for £360 suggested retail price.

Also what is 'A1 premium aluminium' because no such aluminium exists. I'm in a cynical mood as you can read so on face value it looks like they don't want to be tied down to stating the aluminium as it may vary by the far east factory used and could be either 6 or 7 series aluminium. Whoever is cheaper at the time no doubt.

Yes you too can have the new improved hyperbole. Make sure you buy the … Yes you too can have the new improved hyperbole. Make sure you buy the road version for riding on the road and the mountain bike version for riding up those mountains, it makes all the difference. Remember the £100 helmet is bound to be ten times better than the £10 helmet. Don’t take any notice of the fact that they all have to conform to the same safety standards.

There are some differences worth paying for: the fit, comfort and lightness whilst meeting those same standards were way better on my Specialized helmet compared to the perfectly reasonable Aldi one. Waiting for a good deal again (was £21 on here few years back) and with cycling daily to work, I think it is worth it, as the Aldi one's straps are fraying and the plastic peeling off a bit - but cheaper ones work, especially for infrequent recreation.

BTW, I did vote hot on this deal, OP, but wouldn't have all black myself.

Depends what you mean by better, as that was not a point I was making, … Depends what you mean by better, as that was not a point I was making, purely a jokey comment, as I'm happy with my Aldi one, thanks (even had built in light). As long as they meet the safety standards, but having had branded ones, the fit, comfort and breathability tend not be as good on the cheap ones ( some may also prefer looks and brand, but that doesn't bother me).

Unfortunately you get at least one joker on every thread about bicycle helmets implying that safety is somehow related to price. Even putting aside the huge question as to whether bicycle helmets have any benefit at all (and I do wear one), this encourages a misconception in people who have no idea about these things that somehow they must pay ridiculous amounts for them.

If the light in the Aldi one is the same as that in the Lidl one, it is extremely annoying as it takes CR2025 lithium cells. I don't know of any rechargeable alternative.

True, but these racks are the best non-tow bar mounted racks out there. Both for convenience and security.
