I was after a cheap replacement DVD recorder as our Philips unit died at the weekend and bought one of these:-

Does anybody know if this has macrovision (copy protection to prevent you being able to copy sell-thru VHS tapes) detection when recording? My Toshiba (bought 2 or 3 years ago) does and it's a pain because it thinks that the tape degradation on old VHS tapes is macrovision copy protection and randomly flickers the picture. The VHS play back fine if it is just wired to the TV.

If this one does have Macrovision then anybody know of one that doesn't? I even bought a macrovision-buster thing which had no effect whatsoever.

Was going to order but no DV link input :-(
Need to transfer a lot of DV tapes to DVD and thought this was a cheap option, alas no.

Dude, jusy buy a TV card for your PC or USB video device and you are done!
