Dahon foldables are excellent, if a Brompton is out of your price range this does the job brilliantly! Amazing price!

How many other people of a certain age read the title as Vitesse V8?

I've always fancied a folding bike, but have always wondered how tiring the small wheels would be in relation to the gearing - can those with experience share their thoughts? Thanks

If yesterday was anything to go by, they're rather nippy indeed. Why not pop down to a local Halfords and go for a little test ride?

I bought this bike almost 2 years ago. I am still using it to commute 16 miles a day (8 each way) 5 days a week in every weather condition. It's really fast when you use the smallest (11) gear.

BUT... be aware that the default components are not suitable for a long commute... I had to change the following parts:

- pedals (broke after 3 weeks) swapped with -> MKS FD-7 Folding Pedal (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/mks/fd-7-folding-pedals-ec025882)
- rear derailleur (broke after 4 months) -> Claris 8 speed short cage shimano.com/pub…tml + hanger to fit the new derailleur (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/dahon/mech-hanger-espresso-ec047623)
- tyres (blow up after 3 months) -> chainreactioncycles.com/sch…762 (and schalwbe inner tube).
- chain (normal wear) -> SRAM PC850 8 Speed Chain
- cassette (normal wear) -> Sram -Casette PG850
- brakes (better braking power) -> Avid Single Digit 7 (front + rear + dials)
- cables (both brakes and gears) -> Jagwire slick
- rear wheel (broke 1 spoke after 1 year) -> kinetix from halfords (they had a good deal with the raleigh distributor
- brake pads (normal wear) -> kool stop dual compound (half black half salmon)

if you want to buy some other spare parts you can use the site dahonspares.co.uk (under "our products" section). I used it a lot and the owner is ready to help any time you call the shop.

I really love this bike. it's faster than a brompton (even if it's a bit heavier) and most importantly it's foldable...

That's quite a distance on a folding bike! What made you get one instead of a regular one? Do you need to get on the train as well on your commute?

Seems a bit pricey. I didn't pay this for mine, albeit an earlier model. It was a bit useless in the end as when folded it would still be too big to take onto a packed commuter train.

Price has gone back up.

I didn't have a garden/garage and I had to keep the vitesse in my flat. I bought an house with a garage and garden and I am about to buy a "proper" bike (planetx).

Bought 2 earlier this year - fantastic!

The wife prefers hers to a normal bike. Have taken them on two trips to France and Spain - we love ours!

The info was there but presented like all adverts, small print. I would have thought the deal was with winstanley's or a pricematch with Halfords.

I've reserved one - need to lose weight, space in the house is sparse, and I can't afford a Brompton so this looks ideal. Can anyone tell me what they think of theirs? Is it a good buy for the money? Also are Halfords straight forward with price matching - will they honour a simple print our for such a big difference in price.

The ride is surprisingly comfortable for such a little bike, possibly due to a decent frame and 20” tires. Why not go for a test ride prior to making the purchase?

The price match really depends on the member of staff that serves you. Some just ask for a quick look at the competitors website, while others are a little more thorough. They check the size/colour/stock availability prior to matching the competitors price..

Well I went into my local store at the weekend to take a look and they didn't have any on display. I asked a guy on the shop floor and he was bloody rude. Laughed in my face and said "I think you mean a Daewoo and that's a car!".

Long story short I complained to the store manager about the service and he is giving me the bike price matched with an additional 10% off, bringing it to £288. He is also giving me any accesories with 20% off so I have reserved helmet, lock and lights too.

A good deal right?

With that kind of deal, if by chance you don't like it you can possibly sell it for a profit!
