this is a fiver in home bargains, and has been for a long time.

will this melt if you put a cup of tea or coffee on it.. ;-)

If your wall isn't 'true' ie perfectly 'flat', then this type of shelving can be a nightmare to install. Like most hidden shelf fixings, the hidden fixings on these are Pin & Cam Lock. The 'Pin' (sometimes called a dowel), has a circular base that fixes to the wall and extends about 20cm off the wall. These pins insert into the holes in the back of the shelf. The problem is if your wall is not true then the shelf unit cannot butt right up to the base of the Pins meaning the Cam Locks cannot engage.

If you have this problem the only solution short of scribing the wall, is to pack the back of one of the Pin bases which has the effect of extending the length of the pin slightly. The packing needs to be enough to allow the pin to make up any gaps behind the shelf due to an uneven wall. Obviously, if your wall is very uneven then the only solution is to scribe the wall to the shelf unit.

Hope that helps. If anyone needs any help just give me a shout.

I bought the pink one the other week for my girls room, and knew what would happen before I bought it. As mentioned above about the way they are fixed to the wall, you also find they are far from stable. Almost immediately the font of the shelf starts tilting forwards and the whole thing wobbles.

As I needed a pink shelf and not much choice, we kept it and added standard shelf supports underneath the shelf. Not as inteneded but still looks good and solves the problem.

Maybe ok if you're going to put something (light) on the shelf and never move it, otherwise would probably avoid (unless desperate for the colour!)
