I agree it's the worst of them, but a bad Dark Souls game is still a good game compared to most.

More detail please? Is this purely the Scholar of the First Sin version or Dark Souls II as a whole?

The SotFS is actually the saving grace of the game, it adds some decent variation and it seems to make more sense. This is going to come off as a massive fanboy rant, read at your own peril.

- The movement is floaty and awkward. It takes all the good things about demon/dark souls movement and combat and throws it all out of the window. Parrys are broken, they even seemed to mess up the lock-on system.

- The level design is absolutely abysmal. It isn't interconnected, it isn't well thought out, it doesn't even make sense.

- The boss variation is poor, they don't even feel rewarding like the other games. All you feel is relief that it is over.

- The biggest one for me is artificial difficulty. The previous (and later) games were difficult but fair. It seems for this game they forgot about what actually makes the other games good and tried to make it difficult for no reason. For example there are numerous *huge* groups relatively boring, weak enemies. The borked combat system makes this frustrating to deal with. Literally the whole game is cheap.

A little fanboy-y maybe Nah, they seem like fair issues. I thought it was meant to be the best one but I guess you read different things everywhere. I'm still struggling with first one and I have no real idea on story so if I ever beat this, would you suggest skipping it and just going straight to DS3? I have Bloodborne to do too tbf...
Brilliant game, cheap. My favourites are this and Bloodborne

I sunk I’d say a hundred hours into this game. I really thought that it was very good. In fairness some of your points are valid though (level design in particular), but I don’t agree with you that the game has sullied the dark souls name

Of the three Dark Souls and Bloodborne I would say this is the weakest but still a good game, especially for this price.

I agree with a lot of the points made about poor level design (especially when compared to DS1 and BB) unfair combat situations and a quantity over quality approach to the bosses. But I think it's well worth £9 if you fancy playing a Dark Souls game.

another massive dark souls fan boy right here.

It's strange. I really don't like SotfS.. at all. I pumped so many hours into the original game and the DLC's were amazing. But Scholar just messed everything up for me. Moving enemies and items around. Putting to many instances where you needed a Branch of Yore. I just didn't feel like the game I put so much time into.

I do agree with the points you made. I hate the level design. It's just so boring. Especially. when I think it's after you defeat that big slug thing. You just end up in a lava level. It just has no cohesion.

I think it's a great game. But it's a bad Dark Souls game.

for me it goes. Bloodborne > Dark Souls > Dark Souls 3 > Demon Souls > Dark Souls 3

Although I may need to play Demon Souls again. I might swap it out for DS3.

Can't wait to see game play for Elden Ring.
