Dark Souls is the new action role-playing game from the developers who brought you Demon’s Souls, FromSoftware. Dark Souls will have many familiar features: A dark fantasy universe, tense dungeon crawling, fearsome enemy encounters and unique online interactions. Dark Souls is a spiritual successor to Demon’s, not a sequel. Prepare for a new, despair-inducing world, with a vast, fully-explorable horizon and vertically-oriented landforms. Prepare for a new, mysterious story, centered around the the world of Lodran, but most of all, prepare to die. You will face countless murderous traps, countless darkly grotesque mobs and several gargantuan, supremely powerful demons and dragons bosses. You must learn from death to persist through this unforgiving world. And you aren’t alone. Dark Souls allows the spirits of other players to show up in your world, so you can learn from their deaths and they can learn from yours. You can also summon players into your world to co-op adventure, or invade other's worlds to PVP battle. New to Dark Souls are Bonfires, which serve as check points as you fight your way through this epic adventure. While rested at Bonfires, your health and magic replenish but at a cost, all mobs respawn. Beware: There is no place in Dark Souls that is truly safe. With days of game play and an even more punishing difficulty level, Dark Souls will be the most deeply challenging game you play this year. Can you live through a million deaths and earn your legacy?

Not once when you die does Dark Souls help you back up, not once does it let up in its astonishing quality or turn to padding, and not once do the ideas stop coming. Buy it. - IGN

I would too but I still haven't bought a controller and it looks like you pretty much need one for this according to Steam. Any recommendations on a decent (read as - cheap) one?

Great price for a great game - don't forget to get the texture mod

However, what will happen to the MP part when GFWL shuts down?

It is playable with mouse and keyboard - but a 360 gamepad feels much better. You can get a wired one for sub £20

Do what Macdory mentioned or get a ps3 controller (& a USB wire) then combine it with the Motioninjoy program.

I prefer an Xbox controller but am currently using a PS3 controller.
Wasn't there serious frame rate issues on PC, or has that been patched up now?
GFWL is going to be defunct fairly shortly. (The decent developers are removing it from Steam versions). This uses it.

Does the steam version come pre-patched? Or would I have to do this manually? And is this to unlock the 30fps cap?

I assume the textures mod is manual (but hopefully easy to install?)

I'd echo what others have said - either use a PS3 or a 360 wired controller. If you already have a wireless 360 pad lying around you can pick up an official wireless receiver that works a treat.
How are they allowed to sell products as multiplayer knowing full well its not functioning or will cease to exist very soon just look at company of heroes 1 they still sell lots of copies and the multiplayer hasnt been functioning for 6 months +
DON'T BUY THIS ON PC...IT'S TERRIBLE EVEN WITH THE SO CALLED MOD FIXES.

Think you need to invest in a new keyboard mate, your caps lock seems to be stuck on. I disagree with you totally on this it's worth every penny imho and fine!

I presume at that point the multiplayer part will stop working. Multiplayer really hinders you a lot of the time because if you're human you get someone much better than you come kill you every 10 minutes. Then again, some bosses are much easier when you can hire other people to help you kill them. There's some sort of failsafe for the bosses when you're in offline mode in that there are some pretty cool NPC helpers you can summon like Witch Beatrice, Knight Lautrec and Paladin Solaire but in most cases you need a walkthrough so that you don't miss the conditions you need to summon them and continue to summon them. Solaire is a right pain in the bum to get to help you throughout the whole game. It's unlikely but maybe they'll patch in more NPC helpers, or there'll be a player mod.
While this is an incredible game that I can't recommend enough, i'd say try to go for the PS3/360 version for the optimal experience. The game does look and run fantastic on PC (with the patch applied), but multiplayer will most likely disappear once GFWL goes down in a few months time. Considering this is such a long-haul game (120+ hours logged here) and the online component is so important to the structure of the game, you'll be missing out on a LOT of stuff!
Also there appear to be alot of cheaters on the PC version, so you'll be frequently invaded by invulnerable players who like to screw with people.

Edit: Might I add, 120+ hours and I STILL haven't finished the damn thing!!! >: (

You should ask EA this too - as you know that with every new release of FIFA, etc they will shut the server down in circa 2 years time ...

Best game of this generation in my opinion. I'm on my 4th playthrough and still enjoying it. It's a must buy especially at this price.
