Found 13th Nov 2012
Right looking at other deals that have been posted on here for David Lloyd this will probably go cold but I thought I would post anyway as it may be of use to some people & I didn't think it was bad. Only snag is you must use the gym 12 days consecutively.

Terms & Conditions...
Terms and conditions apply. Facilities, fees, classes and memberships contracts vary by club. Certain activities may incur additional fees. Only one 12 day membership per person. Last day to purchase a 12 day membership is 19th December 2012. The cost of a 12 day membership is £12 per adult and £6 per child. Under 18's must be accompanied by an adult. High Wycombe is an adult only club. 12 days must be taken consecutively. 12 day membership is not available at Worcester, Next Generation Swindon, Harbour Club Chelsea or Notting Hill. 12 day membership at Farnham excludes Spa access. Ask in club for full terms and conditions

Good deal to 'try before you buy' a longer term package. Check and double check any contract after this time, especially 'get out' and cancellation clauses. There have been some horror stories attached to gym memberships. (Not suggesting David Lloyd is or has been guilty of any wrongdoing!)

this is a very good deal

nice find

pity you just cant buy it online . you have to go through the whole rig-ma-role of a little dear trying to sell you a full membership

Don't*

Only £5 if you find a member to go with when you sign up!

Shame David Lloyd gyms are overpriced. I'd join if they'd give memberships away at reasonable prices; £55 per month to lift heavy things is a travesty.

Makes no sense whatsoever? Was it supposed to be a joke?

Be VERY careful with David Lloyd contracts.

One of the things I did note was that you could cancel your membership if you were made redundant - my thoughts were that if I was to want to stop using the stupidly expensive gym by my work with a three month notice period, I'd either know in advance I was leaving and going to another job, or have been made redundant.

Unfortunately the latter did happen a year and a half later when the company couldn't get the expected funding and a third of the staff had to go.
They accepted the letter I took in the next day explaining I had been made redundant (a few days before payment was due), I cancelled the direct debit 'just in case'.

They did try and claim I hadn't given them a letter, then that they'd lost it.
You only get your membership 'delayed' for six months, unless you get another job. I had money saved and didn't get another job, so no signing on for me. They wanted me to get HRM to send them some specific details to 'prove' I didn't have a job.
Except HRM explained to me that they wouldn't have such information compiled before the end of the financial year.
They sent debt collectors after me.
I started to threaten court action and taking it up with both their own directors and those of a fitness industry association they were a member of - oddly enough at this point the manager who was "not able to do this", suddenly found out they could infact and properly cancelled my membership.

Secondly and prior to the above, my email address was sold, or leaked via a virus, hack etc to spammers. I own my own domain and a specific email address used only for them received spam. No chance it was randomly generated as I received no other spam to that domain, bar the one specifically for them.

And breath.

Do use the free pass to have a look around. It was the best equipped gym in my town with the most equipment and classes; but also dirtier than significantly cheaper ones - mould in the shower blocks, for instance. The fitness staff were in generally pretty good, to be fair.

You're clearly redundant and not working with a long rant like that. Show David Lloyd this thread and they might believe you

I wish!

Self employed at the moment... which is why long rants wait until the early hours of the morning as I have a quick 'un wind' before bed!

I should point out, to be fair, this was all two years ago - but I have no reason to believe anything has changed in the mean time.

Oh and a final rant - at other gyms all classes are free regardless for members (including the Krav Maga classes which I was paying £10 for as a non-member) - not so David Lloyd, despite being very expensive for the area I was in (£72, out of London), you were still expected to pay extra for various classes.

The Gym have been opening up around the country. The Missus signed up (£10 a month) to the Edinburgh one and loves it. Loads of machines, 24 hours open, and no staff to wait for and sign in every time you go (like a lot of leisure centres). There are floating staff to help you with machines and problems if you have any. You also get a locker (just bring your own padlock).

I used to hunt out privately owned bodybuilder type gyms when I lived in London. Some years was paying around 100 quid a year! The guys there are massive, but really quite friendly and knowledgeable and helpful when they start to recognise you.

The atmosphere is less poncy than at Lloyds in small privately owned gyms, so when you go in, you really do get on with it and do the work.

Shame my local ones in London are not on the list

Thanks

£12 for 12 days over the Christmas / New Year period? People have got things to do!

DL is massively overpriced in my view.

I pay £100pcm for the Vantage membership (use any of their clubs excep Harbour etc) which is megapricey for what it is. Also you have to pay for many of the classes. £6 here, £6 there.....easily comes to £40-£50 a month. Also every January they increase the memership fees without exception.

Pfffft.

At my DL club (Nottingham West Bridgford), when the lights above the tennis courts blow, they take months to replace them, so half the court is shrouded in gloom for ages. The club manager at DL Derby is hopeless and doesn't even reply to correspondence/complaints. Not sure what the other clubs are like in other parts of the country (assuming they would be better).

The bread (any bread whether on a hamburger or roll etc) on the new food menu is rougher than cardboard. Simply horrible to eat, and like no other bread I've ever seen.

Mega pricey for what it is. DL used to offer reasonable value, but they don't anymore. I could join 2 seperate tennis clubs and a gym for less than a monthly membership at DL. That said, if you want the convenience of having everything under one room (swimming pool, tennis courts, gym etc), then DL is an option.

Terrible customer service from David Lloyd. I've just left, they dont talk through the t&cs properly, dont provide a service that matches their price. Leeds and York gyms massively dated. I'd suggest joining a Pure Gym or Gym Group gym if there is one near you. Cheap as chips (no pool but the pools at DL always full of lessons and kids so difficult to get space to swim).

don't know why people vote cold on LA fitness groupon deals and vote hot on this. LA fitness provides 10 separate day passes in a 6 week period while this one has to be used in 12 days. I have been using LA fitness groupon for 5 or 6 times. As soon as I used up all my gym passes they almost put on another deal on groupon, save me more than a half.

HOT thanks OP the one in Cambridge is great as its a Rackets club and has a great pool. Used to be members until the arrival of tiny feet! be nice to take them for a swim

heading back north for xmas / new year, this is ideal...thanks!

Just a quick question - says you have to buy it before the 19th. Does that mean you can start the 12 consecutive days any time you want after the 19th?

what good is 12 days gym membership, i go 12 days a week

Do you get explained the t&c's in full when you join anything from Sky TV to store cards, I am guessing not. Its for you to read through them or ask the correct questions in regards to cancellation when signing up. They then have to advise you. If they don't know get a a staff member that does. You can then make the best informed decision. I am guessing the people that get caught out on contracts that happily sign away without a care in the world and not asking the right questions.
Gyms have had bad press Watchdog etc due to the administration fees or sign up fees being so varied, as this is pure profit and a way of boosting the overall membership cost but I understand it has been clamped down on.

No i don't work in health and Fitness before you say....

They do this at DW too. DW is a great gym too

It is at least £70 a month (Or was last time I checked) last time I checked at the one near me normal cost.

It would be worth it for me if it was closer.

I find local smaller gyms better for me, no joining fees or contracts. I use Fitness 4 Life Gym (www.fitness4lifegym.com), £20 a month inc Sauna, MMA matted area and ring. Good enough for what i want. Im gonna try out David Lloyd as mate has a free pass for a week.

David Lloyd centres are expensive for what they are. I went on a hunt around several in Reading to get some prices (thats another bug bear, the ones near me dont advertise the prices, except one - Nirvana Spa). We had a free day family pass to look around then spoke to the sales person and after finding out what we wanted and lots of calculator button pressing (doesnt fool me!) she quoted £156 / month.....WHAT!? - nb. that was an offer...l laughed and walked out.

We just use the council run one which is ok on an adhoc basis (we were quoted about £80 for that one).

The Nirvana Spa is £96/month and £500 to join but then its a millions times better than David Lloyd but its not really a place for kids

agree with others, watch out for T&C's - they used to require 3 months cancellation, an were cheeky about it, I cancelled an they tried the three month cancellation thing with me, (i'd been with them a good few years), I asked them to get me a copy of my original signed contract, low and behold they couldn't find it...

no contract = no money!!! - good gyms, just very very expensive and contracts are awful.

Good deal so good I went for it and my 12 days run out Saturday. Brilliant gym, fantastic in fact, however I won't be paying the £97 per month they are asking.
