This early 80s BBC adaptation of John Wyndham's cult novel is more faithful to the original story than the controversial 1962 film version that preceded it. When the world wakes up blind, it is left to a a few sighted survivors to work out a future for humanity - and to see off the threat posed by man-eating Triffid plants.

Can understand that.

I liked the 1962 Film
with that dude that had too many kids.

And that minifilm series with that man woman..
Great series
Havent seen the film, but gosh - the book was so boring
Watched it on DVD the other day.
Liked it when it was first shown in 1981.
This terrified me as a child. The Triffids were scary, but it was the break down of law and order and society that gave me nightmares.
Ah, the nostalgias
For me this is the best version. The sequel book is very good.
This is a good comedy, I know it's not meant that way but the acting is so laughable that it's fun to watch.
Also on Amazon for the same price

yes - same here and the DVD can be picked up for this price or cheaper preowned and its probably a higher bitrate than itunes and the booklet inside was a good read by Andrew Pixley.

Yeah didn't know there was a sequel either. As someone said above, the book was surprisingly dull I found when we done it at school.
Watched this again a few years ago, the first time since 81 as a kid and still enjoyed it, felt like I was back there again watching it, better than the remake in 2009.

I missed the last episode when it was first broadcast, it was on later at night (either scheduling or watershed I imagine) and I had a bedtime to adhere too
Saw just the last episode years later, without the context/excitement of the series I was underwhelmed

Boring ? Yes it didn't have car chases or magical wizards but personally I prefer my books to be good reading and this certainly was
Another end of the world book from this time, equally brilliant (although written by a bit of an extreme right winger !) was "60 days to live" by Dennis Wheatley. I loaned it to a mate of mine who finished it and began to get ready to go out on the pop with the rest of us, and he slumped back and thought "Why bother theres nowhere left to go !" before realizing the book had been so good he'd been convinced the comet HAD crashed into Earth ! Now THATS what I call great writing !
This holds up quite well . Saw this when I was 10.
