I think you mis-read he was basically saying only after the PC version is effectively dead, you are talking at least 3 years

Why is this not on steam?

Arghh website screwed.

Why's this game so special?

Another zombie fps for the emotionally and mentally stunted crowd of "mature" gamers.

This is no typical zombie game

DayZ Mod was absolutely amazing - just a shame it was unstable as hell and ran like crap.

Big hopes for this, don't mind it buggy (the mod was) just want it stable

how is this different from Arma 2 + free mod

bah to these early access, its not done games. What's next, I'm planning on having a son, can you buy into this game now that doesn't exist but will be written by him in 20 years time? Why not? It's 20% off! You have something against indie developers? What's wrong with you! Give us all your monies!

What on earth is so good about that!?

No, see... the walking dead (telltale) is amazing.

This is just... an fps.

The same thing game companies keep releasing. It's the space war game of the 2000's that will cause another crash in the market.

Kind of put me off the game that video. Might wait till the 75% off and get it for a fiver or something. Doesn't look like my thing.

Taken from Steam 'THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING.'

and AAA titles also have Alpha stages in development, you just don't get to play them in that state. DayZ took off because of the community and support, DayZ doesn't have the cash for all of its development paid for by investors like AAA titles do. So think of this as an investment into funding a better quality game for yourself. The final point I will make is that, they are not forcing you to buy it now, so if you don't want the early access, just wait for the finished product.

Who says that it will be a good fit for the PS4?
Just like any RTS or MMORPG, it just plays better on a PC.

It won't be £5 for a very very long time, it is like arma 3 in the way that if you buy it in alpha it is £20 then beta is £30 then full release is £40 and arma 3 is still £40 now

Yeah I read so much about him, here he is >

He certainly appears to be brilliant at the game, however there's plenty of naysayers who say he cheats. I don't know the truth, I don't play the game. I would if I had time, but I'm too busy contributing on here, is contributing the right word I wonder? lol

I cant wait for it to come to PS4 with its superior hardware.

I understand the deal, you buy our game that isn't done, so we can carry on paying the bills and work on it. It's a win win model for them. For you, you're paying to be a beta tester. And this idea that you should support developers doesn't fly with me. I owe them nothing and if they can't afford to develop a game, that's a shame but nothing to do with me. So far I've managed to play games all my life without ever having to fund games that aren't done.

And its worth moaning about because it's really starting to catch on. There are more and more of these alpha games cropping up, full price with a get out clause that yeah, this might be absolute rubbish right now but one day if you all pay us, it will be great! That's really not good enough. If they've giving it away massively discounted, OK, now we've got a bit of fairness but full price games that may or may not even work or be available to play at all, bah, you can stuff that and if that makes me a curmudgeon old fart with no heart, so be it

Well, not sure how the standalone plays, but the Arma 2 mod version is brutal.
It plays the realism card in the same way Arma does. i.e. One shot kills, broken limbs (forcing you to crawl), blood loss, tiredness, hunger, thirst, vehicles require major repairs, realistic movement/running/jumping, etc, etc.
Survival depends on scavenging while avoiding zombies and other players rather than going head to head.

Although the game is in a zombie world, the zombies quickly become irrelevant as the biggest problem is other players.

99% would rather kill you on the spot than help. Gangs of bandits stake out the best looting areas to snipe you off, even if they don't want your stuff.

People with the best gear generally do very well.

Most normal gamers find it incredibly hard and frustrating as you lose all your stuff that you have spent hours looting when you die (apart from things you may have stashed)

An indication of a typical playthrough for me:

-Start on the coast in the middle of nowhere.
-Spend 20 minutes running to reach the nearest city, avoiding the small towns of zombies on the way (The map is fairly huge)
-Avoid hot zones in the city (you soon learn them)
-Thirsty and hungry, while looting a church you find some beans, a Pepsi, and an axe.
-Sneak out of the church towards the supermarket.
-Sniper spots you, the first you know of this fact is when you hear a ricocheting bullet and your on the floor, BAM headshot.
-Respawn further away down the coast, rinse and repeat.

Now that may seem like a terrible premise for a game, but the tension you feel when skulking around a city, knowing that there are probably people watching you through a scope is awesome. Making the gamble between finding a can of beans to eat in the fire station or possibly getting your head blown off and losing your stuff you just spent 4 hours cultivating, totally awesome.

Of course you can become one of these hunters too, I felt really guilty on my first PvP kill. Someone was hiding in a bush watching the city when I came up to him. One swift axe chop to the back of the head, and I suddenly felt retched lol.

He only had starting gear too!!

Personally, I think it's a good indication on how 99% of the population would act in an apocalypse of any kind, i.e. Murder, then loot, then run, then wait for more people to murder.

Like I said, the zombies become pretty much irrelevant.

The only thing I can say in response to this is that people sort of already know what they are buying with the dayz mod, so chances are if they like the mod they will like the final release, so they know if it will be rubbish or not.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Well ive just had a blast on it, they've fixed the biggest issue.. Stability and server load time...

Runs like a dream at 1080p and joining a server takes around 3 seconds :).

No game has ever scared me like DayZ has, not in the "Oh my god a monster" scary it's more a zombie horde coming at you with diminishing ammo or when suddenly as you run across a field somebody starts taking shots at you and begins to hunt you down for hours!

Are people voting on the game or the price. There seems to be a real problem with that on HUKD. This is RRP as far as i know ?

this game is good if u have a great imagination. if not its just a zombie sand box where u cant find anything to do. still it has potential to be a good game and the price is good.

Is this still going to be free to people who have arma 2 and the Dayz mod or will it require a new purchase? Would like to see better controller support - is that on the list for alpha release?
