What's this actually like, if you go free to play is it hobbled? Do you need to buy content to actually make it worthwhile?

Free to play is like an unlimited time demo. You're not hobbled like usual free to play

You get a map, a jet and a P51 with no weapons. Given I fly the P51 40% of my time in dcs just for fun, without combat, it depends what you're after. There's multiplayer servers for pure flying.

Each module that you can buy is very detailed. You can buy just one and spend months learning it if you wanted.

For me, the Huey or early jets are the best to pick up and learn first. Less systems to discover so can get by with some trial and error.

You get a Su-25T (Soviet A-10 equivalent) with training missions and a campaign for free. You can then add other modules as you go, e.g. if you prefer WWII or late-Cold War era fighters.
Currently best combat flight Sim (study level depending on aircraft) there is. You can try for free as mentioned above but you really get the benefit with a chosen aircraft - f18 gives you carrier so a great start. You need to invest time in this as well as needing a joystick and half decent pc
Thanks I got the F-18 and Persian Gulf bundle.

My TrackIR arrived today so I have been having fun!

This game is very much a sit and learn for a bit first before you can do much. My buddy and I were sat on the runway tonight for about 20mins while he talked me through the F-18 start up procedure. Pretty cool as it’s actually how you would fire up the real thing with the real noises too.

Can’t wait to get some skills down
