I don't like the idea of just hooking it over the architrave at the top of the door frame, these are usually just soft wood held up with a couple of nails.

I had mine up on a basic door frame for 7 months and was using it regs, I'm 12 stone. They do hold up!

I picked up the other type of pull-up bar in Tesco, thought about the soft wooden door frames at home, and put it back. I rent and can't risk the damage.

They are great, the pole does bend a little.

My thoughts exactly. Even if you did have a sturdy architrave there may not be a strong lintle above the door frame. I have seen builders not use a lintle at all but rely on the door frame to hold up the brick work. Do push ups instead!
