Decent FREE turn-by-turn satnav app for iPhone!

Title says it all, I am trialling it myself. Considering how bad TomTom app is on iPhone, I think this cannot be any worse and reviews of it on iTunes as well as feedback from German users where this has been in use also looks promising.

skobbler.co.uk/

Might save someone a shedload of money, I should have known about this before buying my Garmin Nuvi 1490TV (consolation will be the fact that I can watch footie and freeview channels while out and about).

cheers

It's not FREE for the UK, it costs £1.19.

I am not going to waste yet another £1.19 on a potentially useless program.

I won't vote until the OP can confirm how it is free, since he only posted less than half-an-hour ago, surely it can't have changed price in that time.

EDIT: The lite version is FREE. The Link takes you to the paid version. It is 'user created' satnat, i.e. people like you and me contributing. For this reason it may be great for larger cities, but you may find it is not so great for smaller travelled areas. I haven't tried this so I can't give a honest opinion, but other user-created satnav haven't been that great.

Voted Hot by the way, it might help someone and it is free.

if you go through the App store on your iphone there is a free version there. Just found it after going through itunes itself and seeing the price

You're right - being a newbie I posted a link to Skobbler and mentioned it is in iTunes, but it is the free version I was referring to. Like I said I am already the owner of a brand new Garmin Nuvi, so am trialling this on a part-time basis, live in home county, fairly urban/popular area so it is not a real test. But reviews look good, both from Germany and US and hey, it is that dirty word again - open source! We shall see.....

I felt a little generous of my time today after seeing how generous so many of the posters here are, but seeing some of the comments and responses and the voting cold, I am wondering whether it was worth it :-( No, I am not sensitive, I just feel that you can like something or not use/download what I am suggesting.. A few encouraging comments will make people come out and post more and feel them welcome and as if they can also contribute. Just my £0.02 worth, sorry.

Title says "decent", reviews certainly don't agree.

I'm sorry but I don't see why you feel that way as no one has made unfair comments about your post. You can't expect everyone to be complimentary if they do not feel its a "hot deal". You've got the right attitude in wanting to give back to a site that you've benefitted from and that is right. I wouldn't worry about cold votes and the like - you can't please everyone. If others won't post deals because they don't want it to be voted cold then they need to grow up - it's not a popularity contest!

BTW, I haven't voted either way as I'm not familiar with this piece of software and I won't vote it hot just because it's free.

Sorry, it was the responses to the other deal I posted about alternatives to expensive Microsoft office.

Can this be 'unexpired' - the link still shows the satnav app is free - itunes.apple.com/gb/…t=8

I posted the wrong link the first time to the general Skobbler app. It is still free and I think worth downloading, given the silly price and performance of any other apps on iPhone for the same purpose.
