Not knocking the deal, good price. But why oh why did Dell skimp and use DDR3.
good price for the spec level.
may have gone for this but managed to get a similar Lenovo Y700 for £675
How loud are the fans on this one?

How loud are the fans on this one?

Loud. Once mine gers going it's noticeable.
Got it for £545 with student discount and also had £22 tracked on topcashback. So hopefully £523! Cheers

You wouldn't by chance know if they are As loud as the dell l502x?

That's a crazy good deal, are these new?
Can i play battlefield 4 on this laptop at ps3 graphics settings? I have No idea about how good these laptops r for gaming.
Also is it relatively simple to increase the ram on this?

I hope not.. I have the 502x and it drives me nuts, need to get round to replacing it at somepoint!

Incredibly simple to upgrade RAM. Just remove 1 screw to access the battery, RAM and HDD/SSD. I have the 4K/16gb RAM version of this, managed to get it in the U.S and i'm very happy with it. I assume this will be sufficient for gaming, on medium to high settings.

Not a clue I'm afraid. This was the first laptop I bought in like 7 years... Tbh it's loud but so are the speakers so... Doesn't bother me. And I have a cooling pad stand for it. I'll trade noise for that.

me 2
A few great things:

Super processor, can't really get much better tbf, perfect
Decent size screen, not too small, and full HD
Windows 10 64 bit, great OS imo

A few not so great things:

HDD is quite slow at 5400RPM, not hard to find 7200RPM ones even at average prices
Only 8GB RAM? And DDR3 too, that's a real shame
960M is good (I have desktop 960) but it's not absolutely amazing, would be nice to see something a little nicer in there

For the price it is absolutely fantastic! I just feel like if Dell put a little more effort, upped the RAM to DDR4 or 16GB, put in a faster HDD and maybe upgraded the graphics (it is meant to be a gaming laptop)? I would happily pay a little more

No, it's Dell Outlet, so they are refurbished or returns. I think their standards are pretty high though; I recently bought the 4k version of this laptop which was listed under 'scratched/dented' and it took me quite some time to find the scratch.

That's for the UHD screen which is worth the extra in my opinion.
The z400s M.2 SSD andymal78 listed is the cheapest option, but it is an entry level SSD and you might find it worth paying a little extra for the Samsung Evo 850 (it's £73.02 from Amazon using the options to the right):
amazon.co.uk/Sam…ata

Comparison here: ssd.userbenchmark.com/Com…977

The m.2 sata form factor is more expensive than standard 2.5 SSDs, but it's nice to have the SSD and keep the 1TB HDD.

How to get student discount on the outlet?
I'm in the market for a new desktop - is it worth considering Dell? Budget about £700. I game occasionally and so would need suitable components. How noisy do their systems get when under load?

Nope, UHD one is £790.85 for me including VAT.. might be a cookies issue, not sure. Expired anyway now, looks like the other one was bought as well

No it's not a gaming laptop, Gaming from Dell comes under Alienware & their office ones are usually the XPS series. I believe they call it an entertainment laptop.

I had a 3xxx series a while ago & that came with a some what decent GPU at the time, I guess the higher end Inspirons cater for that without going overboard.

Gaming and entertainment are synonyms in this case, lets be honest most people will be looking to game, watch stuff or, as you say, 'entertain' themselves, its built with gaming style specs, its not exactly an office build is it? ^^ I understand Alienware is, but thats just a name they give to their gaming range, doesn't change the specs of this to be less suited for gaming just cos it's not called Alienware (my bro has an Alienware btw and it sucks)

I just think with a decent gpu and the amazing processor here, its a shame they only used 8GB ddr3 RAM, and that the HDD ain't fast on it either, let themselves down there imo

How to get student discount on the outlet?

Go on Dell Outlet Live chat and mention your NUS card
Bought one of these just before the £699 deal so when i saw that got so much heat i was quite happy i only paid £634, quidco didn't track though, waiting on the claim for an extra £25 off, It's hot but i didn't post as i had the last one :P

I'm curious to hear why you listed the bad points.

The hd is an sshd remember and can laptops come with 7200 rom drives now? I thought the norm was always 5400 here.

And as for the ram I guess you want at least 16gb ddr4? Would there be a significant bonus?

Not not picking generally interested in your thoughts.
If you can get the 10% student discount then you should jump on it. That spec for less than £550 is amazing, will do nicely for gaming as well.

Yep it's still there so not nope at all It's £599.04 +VAT and been on there days now. The one at £790 incl VAT is the UHD model with 16gb ram and a 128gb ssd on top of the 1tb SSHD so again it's worth the extra for those bits.

I'd be tempted if these were the aluminium case I have on my 7537 but the black plastic on such a high spec machine is a let down for me. I really like the aluminium finish to my 7537.
how does this compare to a 13/15" XPS ?
I have a 7559 sitting in my basket now, £568.83 delivered. Was going to get it but can't justify it right now. Will drop it back in the outlet at 4:00pm sharp.

I still have it, so do you want me to drop it into the outlet for you?

Only if you are sure its not what you want? I hesitated trying to get my daughters NUS details and came back here to see if it was the right one.
Yep I am going to drop it back in the outlet anyway but would rather someone on HUKD got it if they wanted it.

Thank you thank you!!

I hesitated because I thought I must have the wrong one as it was coming in at £586 but the OP said £634 so I assumed I had the wrong one. I came back here to check it, pressed to confirm and it was gone!
I don't understand why I got it cheaper than the OP said if it is the same spec?
PS when you said you were going to drop it back I opened four windows and refreshed them one at a time until it appeared ha ha!
