Nah, simply crap.

Most mobile phones for the same price are better spec than this, with higher screen res 1920x1080

No idea what you are talking about. Running similar spec machine great screen and fast enough to browse, play the odd indy or older game, use office etc. Voted cold because double what I paid for an inferior build quality

Processor isn’t terrible - quad core. It functions rather than excels. Enough for most day to day needs. Problem is the screen - 720p TN panel.

If you’re looking at this price point those cheap fivetech or geobook ones had the N5000 with an IPs screen at full HD for £100 on eBay. Grade A refurb mind you, and you could add a M.2 ssd. Much better overall though.

The exact machine I was referencing which is far better value, but nothing to do with being slow

Even if it's functional today with Win 10 then it's not going to cope well with further demands. If I buy a new machine today I want it to be usable for at least another operating system upgrade and minimum 5 years. Whether I keep it for that long or not I want it to have some resale value when I offload it. It's a false economy to buy this machine at this price IMO.

Word, excel and internet isn’t gonna to get that much more demanding over the next 5 years, so much so that this processor suddenly becomes unviable.

Not coping well with further demands... sounds like my ex girlfriend....

I guess it all depends on how many days you want to wait for a webpage to load.
You'd be better off with a refurbed dell latitude for the same money, just picked up an E7240 with 8gb ram, 256gb SSD and i5 4th gen for £200 on ebay.

Predicting the next 5 years of internet/computing is brave, especially as this processor is barely viable now. The money could be better spent elsewhere... now that sounds like my ex girlfriend.

I agree on buying refurb but that's pretty overpriced, I got an E7240 last year for £80. £200 can buy you a Latitude E7270, 7280 or Lenovo ThinkPad X260 or T460.
took an Inspiron 5000 back yesterday as battery was just dreadful - gone for a HP instead, same spec i5 and ssd for £30 cheaper . id avoid this

And 20 years ago we thought we would cure cancer and have world peace, but instead the Americans are still debating evolution and we’ve left the EU, so I think we can tone down your expectations of the next 5 years.

Internet might be far more interesting but browsers needing more than a quad core chip? Please.

Theres 15 year old laptops on eBay running 500mb ram and single core chips which can run internet browsers fine.

I'm not entirely sure what leaving the EU has to do with this but if all someone wants to do is browse then there are cheaper Chromebooks available. IMO this machine is money down the drain.

The shame of it is that the people who can least afford to buy a replacement are the ones who will buy it because it's cheap. Then they will find it has no resale value either and they have wasted their hard earned. Leaving the processor aside it's still a dog of a machine and as other people have written, better laptops can be had for less 2nd hand.

I'm not being a snob, there are really good reasons not to buy this. I've had people on here look down their nose at a £600 machine which is ludicrous but this is just cheap and nasty. The old saying 'buy cheap, buy twice' definitely applies here.
