Be warned that these will be about 3-4 years old and ex-corporate ... so shot batteries

... and the hinges tend to go on these and with then being ex-corp keys also tend to get worn, having said that I got a similar one (not from big pockets) replaced the keyboard and its the only laptop (and computer) I've had thats never stoppped working since I've had it! Price seems good to but depends on the condition it is.

Not more of this junk :-(

Not bad, only problem is that this takes PC2700/PC3200, which is comparatively expensive (£25-£30 for 1GB, instead of £10-£15).

In addition I am not sure which wireless LAN card it ships with. Some reviews say it comes with the Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN MiniPCI Card, which supposedly supports WPA and others simply say 802.11B - which will likely not support WPA encryption (a new Wireless card is £10-15).

Reviews of the built quality aren't too brilliant either. Personaly I would look on for a 2nd hand Thinkpad X41, which uses DDR2 memory and comes with a WPA capable wireless card.

Cold from me. It's a good deal in the sense that it's a cheap laptop, but, it's old, and probably won't be very healthy, since it's not a new laptop. For this sort of money, you can buy a Core2Duo in the second-hand world of Gumtree and eBay.

Good lightweight student laptop with decent CPU ( 1.69KG ?)

3 months warranty means that these should have proven reliability.

Voted cold from me as these are always this price on bigpockets ....

OK sounds good, just link me to some Core2Duos for 139.99.

voted hot. these dell latitudes are top quality. i have the d500 the d600 and the d610. good build quality. nothing like these new acer laptops where the hinges go after 2 months.

sorry more old junk trying to be passed on from this company been caught once never again be warned

amazing that this old stuff is still sold

I have two of these. Build quality is very good (for Dell!) but batteries will be about to die due to age. Also, some of them don't have wireless cos some Corps specced them without it.
I really like the size of these, very portable but the screen is just big enough.
Also note, that there is no internal floppy or DVD.

"Refurbished" - my most despised word when it comes to deals.

If everywhere else sells it for £1 a can then yes it is ;-)

This is a decent deal for a low spec-craptop, voted hot for the deal.

Looks good at first but a cheap new netbook would be just as good (functionally) and will come with more warrantly and a batterty that works.

I've a D620 with similar specs but also has a '3G sim' slot under the batter, dvd burner and office pre-installed. 60gb hard drive as well. If someone wants to offer me £120 + postage I'll open a thread.

I think it's a good deal.

I bought one of these 4 years ago when it was worth £1200 (albeit via the outlet at £200).

It has required a replacement screen since then but otherwise a great machine.

I've had one of these for about 3 years now. Good machine, but a bit dated. My kids use it now.

Ok as a lightweight web browser or low powered bit torrent client.

i picked this up free from work - they were chucking it out. Its a decent laptop but you would not see me paying more than £20 for it!

Awwwww I bought an Acer about a year ago and since which all I hear is people saying their ****... Ive been really pleased with mine thus far

Anyway... bit off topic

Been looking at IBM Laptops on ebay with better specs than this from very reputable (power) sellers. Better CPU, 1GB RAM, bigger HD, XP Pro licence for under the £200 mark. Obviously IBMs are better laptops than Dell, famed for their great build and ergonomics.

If you dislike ebay though then I guess this is a decent deal. If it's just a home laptop battery life isn't always an issue and some people just don't like the tiny screens and keyboards on netbooks.

Only half a Gig of RAM, just say no.

i would be intrested,

does it work? come with recovery cd's? free of faults? physically marked or damaged in anyway?
and how many hours does it display on a full charge?

thanks

Guys

I have used these laptops for a number of years. I must say they are really light, flexible and robusts. I bought a massive battery on ebay and it can run about 4 hrs.
Originally they did have some screen issues but these were resollved. The wireless is very poor compared ot my macbook pro. However in summary a lot better than my asus eee pc701!

incidentally I bought one of these last week (typing on it now). My battery is for 2 hours, and the hard drive that came with mine was 80GB

It takes DDR2 memory - cheap as chips not bad system IMHO.

Its a good little laptop. I had one for a few months.

It does take DDR memory (2700 / 333).

With the extended battery it lasted about 4 hours with wifi on, surfing & listening to music.

One problem with these are the hinges - they wear out quite quickly.

I should have said in my other post the hinges can be fixed with a hammer of all things! There is some quite good instructions on the net somewhere but I don't have the URL to hand.

This is just a temporary fix however.
