MikeT, what are the limitations of this 512mb version of vista business. Is it a diet version that will only work with 512. What would happen if i upgraded the ram....
cheers

I think you will find Dell may have removed all the fancy Vista effects and such (Not removed, disabled is a better word).

Remember that in a business environment they couldn't give a monkeys if the thing looked nice...All they want is a reliable operating system.

I think you will find that the OS just switches off Aero when the machine config just isnt able to run the fancy stuff, throw some ram at it and as long as Media Accelerator 3000 is good enough for Aero (check MS Vista listings) it will enable itself.

Cheers MikeT, sounds an excellent machine for the money, esp wi vista business. Just needs a ram upgrade.

The Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3000 is optimized for Windows Vista Aero experience and is capable of supporting the Microsoft Windows Vista Premium logo program.
Just make sure you have enough ram as the 3000 uses system ram and Vista likes to see 1gig free for use.

Dell is even better now, £269.07 but with 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD....

Hi

I'm really quite tempted by this deal. My 5 year old 1.8G celeron has just packed in, and i need a replacement.

Mainly it will be used for web browsing, office, downloading music/video, and playing the odd retro game (as well as football manager).

Will this meet my needs?

Any help much appreciated....

....PS, i should just mention that i'm looking at the 1gig ram, 160gb HD option.

Tar...

No one want/able to help?:-(

benh

that spec would be more than happy to do all the items you listed without a problem , in fact you could be running them all at the same time ....

Thanks for that.

Is there anything obvious that this system is missing? (aside from the monitor).

Just wondering why its not a bit hotter....

I like this too, any other feedback???? can you upgarde it to a 250 gig hard drive?

Original Poster

BenH yes as already said it will do all you want it to easily, the D series cpu doesnt have the same bragging rights as a core 2 dou but is quite a capable cpu still. It generates a bit more heat but Dells cooling is masive so its still very quiet, you can upgrade the hard drive or add another (sata) once you have it.
Up in price from when I posted it but the extra ram and hard drive space make up for that.
