There is an upgrade to AMD® Live Technology - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ which is showing as add £0.00, so I assumes it's a free one. I dont know much on the differences between the two processors.

I wouldnt mind hearing what people think of this, seems a good deal to me but could do with re-assurance before buying one!

Sorry karl.pestell, but it's already been posted here on the front page I think.

Then again maybe not with the spec you've highlighted The ones on the front page have an extra digit in the eValue code, apologies for that :pirate:

Thanks Ray, I did have a look and the ones on there seemed to have a diff spec etc. Hope this is OK.

No I was wrong lol The ones posted there are variants of that eValue code

looks a good deal, anyone out there know the difference betweene the 2 AMD X2 processors?..

i was going to get one of the other ones later today i think i will get this now. I would also like to know the same as above between the processors.

One down side the memory upgrade has gone up from £58 to £94 for two gig in this deal

Having a quick look about online, it seems like the AMD Live has been setup to compete against Intel Viiv.

This might help ]http//ww…tml

Yes another good deal this week from Dell, thanks for posting it Karl.

I cant post them all or the membership start sharpening their axe's:viking: as it fills the page with Dells!

Hi,

Good find!. Does anyone know what the power consumption is on an AMD Live Technology Athlon 64 X2 machine compared to an Intel Core2Duo machine?.

Dual Channel Memory too!.

Voted hot.

can also get the C521 deal on Dell, its £518.99 - same spec, but no speakers and tv tuner.
I dont need them, so this may be better for me, plus smaller/slimmer base unit. May get the ultrasharp monior instead too.

Hi, Do you know the e-code for this one please?.

Thank you.

not sure, think its D01C17A.
You have to go to the Dell website, click 'offers of the week', then 'Dimension C521'. Reduce the warranty for better price.

Isn't the C521 a better deal at £442 ? (NB make sure you slect the £418 C521 - if you select the others and upspec them they end up dearer)

slightly slower cpu but loads cheaper !

A dual cord amd processor is considerably better then pentium as it has been specifically designed to be dual rather then a single processor. Pentiums dual core processors are basically two single processors stuck together with a few tweaks so they could get them out before amd.

Not only is the ram ddr its ddr2 and with the free upgrade to vista you can upgrade higher then ther 4gbs xp limits you to.

The harddrive is standard really with only 8mb of cache compared to that of 16mb which is becoming standard. This wont make a huge difference to the everyday user.

The graphics card isnt the best but again to the everyday user who plays games every so often it will run them fine.
It will run all top titles easily just maybe not to their full potential.

Also Dell are fantastic Pc's in my experiance and are easy to upgrade and maintain.

Thanks i ordered this, delivery expected on the 9.1.07.

mow i need to find some decent software for transfering my old pc

Does anyone know if you can amend your after it has been placed with dell? i have just found a internal car reader that i wanted and did not see before

You cant amend it so best to phone and cancel the order and start again.

Re: Jitterbugs Intel vs Amd comment
This may have been true in the past, but the (relatively) new Intel Core 2 Duo blows away pretty much anything AMD have to offer. Performance is better, and power consumption is significantly lower. Overclocking is also very goo if you're into that sort of thing.

Having said all that, the AMD X2s are perfectly good processors, but they are probably 10% slower than the equivalently priced Intel .

Not trying to start a flame-war here, just making sure that people get a balanced view

For some figures, have a look at :-

Ok I'm really tempted by this deal, it's seems very good, do I order now or wait itll tomorrow which is a new dell pricing day and potentially miss this one? Advice please.

There are quite a few offers which finish today with Dell, like the free shipping...

So its a gamble - will tomorrows offers be better or worse, or what will happen to prices when Vista comes out - next month I think..

Moderator

Al, you could be crafty and place your order tonight for this one and then if tomorrow brings something better you can ring and cancel this one and order again. Dell can also be kind to those trying to cancel;-)

If I order today can I cancel tomorrow if I see a better deal? I have 1 hour 20 mins so quick advice please.

LOL ur Scary Mike you answered my question before I posted it. LOL.

Dell have today Thursday 4th Jan withdrawn the free delivery on lots of units so the 2 mentioned in this thread now cost another £60 each

D01E16 is £649
D01E03 is now £646

No units have dropped in price since last week

Some units have a larger hard drive offered

Top end units may have ]FREE Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard & Mouse offered.

Good thing I ordered last night.

Moderator

Result eh! ;-)

Hope so. Still whats the best line to use when you want to 'cancel' an order? I just want to see if they will throw a few freebies in.

Moderator

D01E16 is £628.98 as of lunchtime Thursday 4th Jan

Also 2 changes to the spec:

500GB Dual Hard Drive Non RAID (2x250GB - 7200rpm)

Dell Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard & Mouse Dell Wireless Bluetooth

Is there a way to order a dell without a screen? I have a perfectly reasonable 17" and don't want a 19" even if it is 'free'.

I think what I want is a dual processor, 1GB Ram, 160GB hard drive spec machine - any idea what to go for - not bothered about AMD vs Intel as brands just want something faster than this old dog that can handle my propensity to try and do umpteen things at once and to run memory hungry apps like Photoshop.

I find the dell website infuriating, but the prices do sometimes look good.

Have a look at the ones on offer in the outlet section of Dell. They don't have a moniter and are cheaper than the 'store' ones.

Where's the outlet section?

******edited******

Found it! I presume these would still have some warranty?

How long does Quidco usually take to track Dell payments? I ordered on the 3rd and it's still not tracking?

Have a look at some of the deals on here mate, the acer one and the hp one from Curries seem decent value.

I also just found a very reputable PC company on eBay with over 6,000+ feedback at 99.8% selling a core 2 duo, 1gb ram, a very good Asus motherboard, DVD writer, 160gb hard drive, plus a choice of very smart cases with at least 400w PSU for just £360 + £25 delivery. No opersting system but you can buy them from eBuyer for about £50 or get it free if you really wanted. Or you could check and see how much they would charge to put one on for you.

Oh and they give a 1 year warranty too!

Because we are not allowed to link to eBay I will give the sellers name instead so people can look them up. arbico_computers is their name and just search for core 2 duo at just £360 buy it now in their items for sale section.

Yes I think jitterbug was referring to the Pentium D, which made a nice office heater for the cold winter months if nothing else :-D

Personally I'm still recommending the AMD X2 at the budget end because the integrated graphics of the 6150 chipset aren't actually too bad. Intel's Core 2 Duo is the better processor but for a system under £500 I think you'll get more for your money with AMD's X2.

Just like to thank you for the pointer to Dells Outlet page on their website - would never have spotted it, and with this weeks offer of £95 off all outlet systems I have nabbed a PC

There's actually not a lot in it in terms of the overall system power consumption. Depends on the typical usage. Under full load core 2 duo definitely has the edge over an AMD X2 of equivalent performance but while idle AMD's Cool 'n' Quiet technology brings the clock speed and VCore lower (1GHz vs 1.6GHz AFAIK). Under typical usage I'd say there's nothing in it, not enough to notice anyway.
