Best specs I can find for £1k. It doesn't say the display refresh rate so probably assume it's 60Hz.

An alternative option is the G5 15 with the full 1660Ti (not Max-Q), 144Hz screen and better cooling for £1011: dell.com/en-…525

Thanks, I've updated the title.
Last week they had the equivalent but with 16GB RAM for £1,031 with the discount. I find their discounts come and go each week in varying amounts, in hindsight the deal last week was pretty good

Done.
Shame it only has 8GB RAM. Might be OK for gaming but I'd use this for VM's as well and 8GB doesn't cut it anymore. Anyway good price regardless.

Great find! I've updated to include it.
60Hz is a massive dealbreaker, no point having all that power to just have games project at 60Hz 1080p when you can just get a cheaper 1060 with intel 8th gen cpu (or even i7 7th gen with some games a few years old) which can run the newest games at that rate on high. I'm holding off for the new Predator Helios to get this low priced hopefully during the Christmas sales, the pressure from Ryzen/Navi should help bring the price down.

I've also noticed the G5 comes with the full 1660Ti instead of the inferior Max-Q that the G3 has, so it probably is worth the extra money.

Not a massive deal breaker if you play something like BF5 on ultra settings at 1080p, then you won't be going above 60 fps anyway and it being the 60w 1660 to it won't be that powerful, depends what you play I guess.

Completely agree, even at 75hz you can notice the difference. If I was paying this much, I'd definitely want 120hz.
I bought a used alienware r5 17inch 4k with i9 with gtx 1070. Even when downloading steam games the cpu temp hits 100°. The warranty ran out in may. Is there anything I can do to make it better or do I just take it back under shop warranty?

Most likely an employee rewards scheme of some sort.

Try notebook fan controller and find some good profile for your pc online. Fixed my asus laptop. Its often fault for gaming laptops that fans are set wrong and not used to full potential.
Gaming laptops have a dedicated card. I wonder if they are suitable for photo and video editing?

Lots of businesses get it. It’s not a dell employee discount so definitely not confidential. It ranges from 5-30% IIRC.
It seems I can only select the US layout of the RGB keyboard on the G5? :/

Newer software use cuda power for processing as well as cpu power so having a GPU is definitely worth it. I got my alienware i9 r5 laptop with 1070 and 8GB dedicated ram especially for photo editing though I have steam installed

Quote from gadget
Graphics cards. When selecting a GPU, it makes a big difference whether you're doing video or photo editing and what kind of display you have. Adobe's Lightroom and Photoshop, the two most popular photo-editingpackages, benefit little from a GPU; you're better off having more RAM and faster storage.
