Strange. 1050s either come in 2GB or 4GB? But it is what it says on the site!
You can often get GTX 1060 laptops for this price. There is little difference between Intel 8th and 9th gens, so I'd rather get a better graphics card than a barely-better processor. Cold for me.

Hi, so what would You go for at that price ?

Hi, so what would You go for at that price ?

There was a refurbished ASUS with a 1060 for £630 posted here yesterday, but it had very bad storage which you can't upgrade without breaking warranty. So I'd either wait for a better deal for less than £700 or go the extra mile for this: box.co.uk/300…019

Or even this with a 144 Hz screen (worth it IMO): box.co.uk/300…019
Why is the picture showing 'RTX'? The 1050 is not an RTX card.

There aren't any 1060 laptops at that price right now, but it's definitely worth waiting because they are often this price. Currently there are several 1050ti laptops in this price range: box.co.uk/lap…175

Wouldn't worry, the human eye cant see over 3gb of VRAM anyway
Which is a good website to benchmark graphics cards? I’ve googled a few but they put the 1050 in varying ranks

In Laptops it goes from worst to best roughly like this

1050 2gb
1050 4gb
1050ti
1650
1060 6gb
1660ti = RTX 2060
1070
RTX 2070

Personally I would consider a 1060 6gb the minimum to look for, also preferably a i7 but a i5 would be better if the graphic card is better ie i7 8750h 1050ti wouldn't game as well as a i5 9300h 1660ti

Also you got to remember that laptops and desktops are very different, for example a RTX 2060 is much faster than a 1660ti and 1070 in desktop form, but in laptops it roughly matches a 1660ti, and 1070 Max Q, while getting beat by a full 1070 by a good 10%

Hope that helped

This is really helpful, thanks a lot!

In terms of price points, what do you think would be a good deal for an 1060 / i5? From what I’ve seen they tend to price £900+ (looking at dell), though probably some premium in the price for a dell/asus type manufacturer

There is a medions usually around the £750-£800 mark with 1060 6gb cards

On box they have a Medion X6807 with an i5, 1060 6gb, 144hz IPS screen and a mechanical keyboard, for £800. Based on those specs, it'd be a great gaming machine, but I would look to change the RAM to 16gb dual channel when £ allows for that

That laptop uses the same Tongfeng chassis that Bobofalltrades was loving on YouTube, and he knows his stuff

Probably as laptop prices fluctuate so much. So I guess a deal is a deal relative to the competition at the time? Who knows!!

I do know that nearly £700 for a GTX1050 is cold for me

whats Medion or MSI like compared to say ASUS, HP or Dell. Are the two former ones reliable and sturdy? E.G Wont break within a year!

MSI make some of the best gaming laptops period.

Medion sort of rebrand other companies chassis, if the deal was right, I'd buy one
