Difficult to say. The PS4 doesn't have a screen. Also it doesn't have a battery. I think a better comparison might be with a Vauxhall Zafira, a second hand one will cost about six times this, but you can fit 7 people in it... But again, no screen. It's a minefield.
60hz screen - what is the point to have a powerfull gaming laptop with that refresh rate screen?
8gb ram in 2019? a joke

I have seen the i7 variant of this and it looks stunning and just flies, so should imagine for gamer's it will be heaven, the i5 is not far behind it and for a lot less, you get the same screen and 2060 gpu in this deal ;-)Are you a gamer or just want a decent fast laptop?

Maybe because your eyes won’t notice the difference on such small screen !?

I'm not sure how this myth gets around. Honestly if you compare two identical laptops side by side and one has a 4k panel it's a night and day difference.

Not that I'm actually that fussed about having 4k on a laptop screen, I'd rather have 1080p with a better battery life myself.

Wow this is stupid. What is this graph even supposed to mean?

I got a Dell XPS in 2006 and it lasted me with no problems till 2016. Amazing bit of kit
Love Dell builds and never had an issue with heat

Well if you already own both and cannot see the point, would just sell the 4k one and maybe pop off for an eye test!

I'm actually looking to sell the 4k one as its older and I've had an eye test recently, thanks. I didn't say there isn't any difference, I said it's barely noticeable. But, it is pointless having 4k on such a small screen size, like it or lump it.

If you’re just in it for video gaming then comparing this gaming laptop to a console is utterly pointless. A closer comparison is a desktop/tower gaming PC and even then it has the ability to double up as a productivity device whereas the PS4 doesn’t, so they’re just not like-for-like. If you don’t see how consoles and PC gaming are two totally different areas and hence have price differences why are you even visiting a gaming laptop thread having already decided the PS4 is the one for you?

I have a gaming laptop (one of a few) with a QHD+ panel. It looks good but I can’t drive games at 3200 x 1800 so I end up resorting to 1600 x 900 which should be perfect 2:1 mapping but it always looks soft (this is pretty typical) so I guess you’d take a good 1080p panel and run at native over a 4K panel for that reason. For work and productivity, I agree, I’d take a 4K display any day!

Never understood 17" plus laptops. Get an ultrabook with a 12" full hd screen. Hold it up in front of you and your 55" or 65" tv, and at the distance it is in front of you it will completely cover your view of the TV. Hence your 12.5" screen is effectively larger than a 55" TV and you can carry it around with you.
Great price but I'd be wary of buying a Dell laptop without reading a review first.

Unfortunately they are rather expensive at the moment compared to the more budget friendly gaming laptops.

dells not good with heat?! you are crazy. one of the best. dell inspiron gaming 1050 version (7567), keeps 60 C on gpu and CPU while playing pubg... if that's bad....
Keelan_2nd Feb

CPU bottleneck as well with a gpu like that

i5 vs i7 in gaming is very little difference.

It might not even get 60fps if the thermal throttling is bad. There is no point in a 144hz screen in a gaming laptop if the laptop will struggle to get much over 60fps.It should be slightly superior than the desktop 1060 if it doesn't thermal throttle, which makes it solidly a 60fps 1080p graphics card.

i5 vs i7 in gaming is very little difference.

additionally, it will be capable on high/ultra at 100+ fps easily

With a slight overclock on the GPU it was on par with the desktop 980ti.The notebook 2070 is on par with an overclocked notebook 1070. (My firestrike graphics score with a 1070 is marginally better than a stock 2070 laptop).

sorry, but I call this BS.mobile version of 1050 perform like 10% (only) weaker than desktop version of same chipset

Truly pointless comment that adds nothing to this thread. A gaming laptop does more than just gaming, sure you might be able to make a ps4 mimic a PC but with all the unnecessary hassle. How about l make pointless comment: can you take ps4 out to a coffee shop and look at you emails, watch few videos and do your coursework in the library?
Just looking advice if the i7 version with 16GB ram is better value? its £250 more expensive

dell.com/en-…703
Contrary to my last comment, the RTX 2060 is useless for raytracing as it would lower frames below 60 fps and DLSS is only useful for screens above 1080p, you would all be better off with a 2018 laptop with a 1070 or higher with better specs at this price.

I've never had a Dell laptop, but the spec would be good, I'd like to know how these handle the heat, hard to find reviews on any of the new laptops yet, early days tho.

Good thing the 8300H is hyper threaded

Doubt that very much. Let's see a link to what you bought...

Depends entirely on what you’re playing. Some people use controllers, some people play slow paced games, in that case 60Hz is fine. Also means the GPU will last a few more years, I’ve had to spend way more money on GPUs because of my appetite for always having 144Hz.
There me hoping RTX 2070 at this price, I can only dream still these laptop s are £300-400 overpriced
Try unidays for even cheaper 🏼.

Can you quote the actual benchmark figures, so we can see the difference other than "noticably smoother". It is far easier to just see the written down min/max FPS than trawl through youtube videos.
I've recently purchased a 1070 GTX laptop, 8750, 16GB ram etc, which blows 2060 out of the water.

I was seriously looking at this, but benchmarks for 2060 laptop just too poor compared to 1060, Ray tracing is a nice feature, but there is no way you will be able to use that on a laptop graphics card and get a decent (30+) framerate. Also the power supply is puny.

IMO for extra 100 quid, it is much better investment.
