Thanks! Paid nearly £8 for 2 leads before Christmas. Just got 2 more now for £1.88.

Wow - loads of really cheap cables here - they charge stupid amounts for this sort of thing on the highstreet!

Trying to think of any cables I might need in the future lol

1.8m USB lead 78p (my new printer didn't come with one).

cheers, pc world tried to charge me £20 for one last w/end (I didn't get it!)

i found that limiting the search with rj45 cuts down on the 'other' acccessories

Loads more bargains to be had if you carry on through the pages - some cheap wireless mouse/keyboard stuff as well.

If you list by price low to high it saves time too as the higher the price the less discount it seems.

i've just ordered a vga cable rom dell and the delivery charge was approx £7 i then added one of the cat5e patch cables for 31p and the delivery charge dissappeared so basically as long as you order one of the items with free delivery, such as the cat5e cables then you get free delivery on all the items you order. or at least thats what it looks like

mikeT and dell hmmmm.....

Hi,

Here's the URL that you need:-

accessories.euro.dell.com/sna…795

Hope this is of some help.

Best Regards.

ordered about 40 quids worth of stuff for 7quid

I'm looking for mini USB cable but have gone through about 20pages but not found anything! Anyone got a direct link?

Decent deal for retail pricing(I work in the industry and needless to say, trade pricing is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper).

Just be aware that IMO the images are misleading for the shorter leads(50cm, 1m). They show coils of cable, and there is no way that the cables are anywhere near as long as shown in the pictures. I certainly cant really see any requirement for home use for 0.5m patch leads - they are really really short, and normally used only for patching switches in(in the industry :)).

Imation 10 x DVD-RW 4.7GB 2x spindle £5.18. Seems quite a good price for DVD-RW. Think I paid £2 pounds something for 2.

Thanks OP. Heat added. Went for a network cable and usb cable. Always worth having a spare knocking about.

Say I wanted to connect a laptop to a desktop PC over a LAN connection, would this cable be any good? (I'm not so familiar with the world of IT)

No for that you would need a crossover cable

the 0.5 metre is useful kit closely located to each other....i use a 05.m cable from my cable modem to wireless router, wless router to desktop....had to buy mine at maplin for £3.99 (eexpenive for me, eek....its ok quality) as i needed a cable quickly
ebuyer as usually pretty cheap for cables too....i havent checked but i dont think they are quite as cheap as this

No, UTP(unshielded twisted pair) can be either, but will be straight through probably. Unlikely you need crossover cable for this, as almost all modern network cards are auto sensing these days, so can utilise a straight through as crossover anyway.

What is the diference between the CAT 5 & CAT 5e patch cables?

To simplify things badass, from a consumer point of view, ALL network cables are UTP. This is not the case at all, but for your purposes they are :). STP(shielded twisted pair) is MUCH more expensive, and is rare, only used in certain situations.

Cat5e is the standard these days Damon. Even cables tagged as Cat5 are almost certainly Cat5e, the terms have become almost interchangeable. Cat5 is an older standard, long superceded by Cat5e.

Thanks Mr Shed
