Not for gamers but some gpu acceleration in professional engineering applications possible..
Great price op. It does show the SSD as 360gb though unless I'm looking at the wrong model?

Correct, well, it's larger than 128GB

Its a quad core i7 processor.. should be designed for gamers no?
Gaming is prob equivalent to an AMD 7750 or GTX 650 (or gtx950M for a mobile chip). So prob some basic / old gaming in it, much better than the Intel on board this, but don’t buy it for gaming. CAD etc will be accelerated as Prazak said.

It is rather a strong mobile workstation
Seems to be released about 18 months ago . This seems like a fairly decent deal for the spec. If you're after a decent workstation I doubt you'll find anything close without spending double or triple the price, unless you find another refurb like this.

I just read that review.. Could suffer from the same problem..
I've purchased a refurb Dell from them. 10/10 from me!.

Great customer service and great products.

Will be buying again from them.
Looks like a US keyboard.
Good rating on CPU benchmark
Some really good deals on that site. 1 year warranty Latitude 12 with an i7, 8gb of ram and 256gb SSD for £450. mcscom.co.uk/pro…56/
The Dell Precisions laptops are usually based on another chassis. So that M3800 (Haswell 35W Quad core i7) is AFAIK based on a XPS model.
Those M6800 (Haswell 45W Quadcore I think) are based has it's own case as there AFAIK there isn't a 17" Latitude.
According to Notebookcheck,
notebookcheck.net/Del…tml
this is based on a Latitude 5000 series so don't expect the workmanship of the 7000 series or the looks of XPS series and compared the 7500 series, not as maintainable.
mmmmm decent spec for price and has thunderbolt which means you can use it with an external gpu enclosure if required for gaming or more expansion options.
Good specs for the price, hot for me.

No it wasn't designed for gamers, there are other subsets of users who need a lot 9f power, media editing, CAD to name 2 but there are plenty of others who need the grunt but don't play games.

Without a proper video card it's not really suitable for anything other than older games

Good spot, correct US keyboard..confirmed in specs sadly.
The computer is good. Graphics card is decent will run any game with lower settings. Price is not the lowest, but you could do much worse, considering some duff machines with i3 start at £400
But you can have a used i3 off ebay (new model I bought a while ago) for £220 that's a lot less money.
Sim card slot and usb c port nice touches but never heard of the seller before and a return to base warranty could prove costly if any issues in first year (weight)..i am guessing it is a refurb but strangely does not say in specs / listing. MCS sell refurb and also new Dell laptops.

Bought from them years ago back when they were only on eBay, had a problem because there wasn't a backlit keyboard as advertised on my model, they were happy to refund the cost of a new keyboard, so from me
Good company to buy from, I bought a refurb tablet that came as new, couldn't find a blemish.

Partition it and compress the D drive (for data). Leave C small and for windows only

The description is probably not accurate. I don't believe there's any SIM card slot.
If you are wanting to see how it performs for games , use game debate , its good at showing which game can be run, providing you put in the correct spec of cpu, ram, gpu
I got an extra £15 off using the code workstation15
its a 6th Generation i7 (albeit a to of the range one) - bear in mind that the 8th Generation coffee lake cpus are now in most new laptops
Thinking of getting something similar spec to this, but possibly with a bit of gaming options...

This seems a good one, but wondering if anyone can advise (apologies if hijacking) as to whether either of the below are worth the extra? For clarity, I've got access to student discounts (in brackets) via HP Store...

OMEN by HP 17-an011na Gaming Laptop with 3 year Care Pack - (£773.52)
OMEN by HP 15-ce001na Gaming Laptop - GTX 1050 with 3 year Care Pack - (£791.12)

The latter (seems?) to be a bit pricier for a lesser processor and smaller screen, but a bit in the dark, myself!

It has a SIM slot just to the right of the VGA one on the back. You can just make it out if you look closely. Whether it's activated or not is another matter, but it would eat up so much data I don't see the advantage in it. Okay if you work for a big company and they foot the bill for you using it on a train back and forth to work but otherwise not for a personal user.

I wonder why it runs hot just streaming though? It's fitted with an SSD which produces no heat. The only moving part inside would be the fan so I can't understand why it would get so hot that it's uncomfortable to touch from the outside unless it's just poorly ventilated. I could understand if it was powering peripherals from the USB-C and USB-3 slots at the same time but as a standalone with nothing attached why would it get hot? I have a fanless Chromebook that streams in HD with other tabs open without getting the slightest bit warm. I've got a much lower specced HP250 G4 Workstation that only blasts the fan every so often because it can't tell I've swapped the original HDD out for an SSD. I could probably remove that fan if I needed the space for something else.

The motherboard for this is £300+ alone on eBay and on Amazon US the same model is about $1500 refurbished so the price on this, even the full one which is £500 without any discounts, has me baffled. The motherboard + the SSD costs more than £500. I understand it's a refurb but still, it's one of those deals that just seems too good to be true. Heat for the deal and I hope anyone that goes for it has a great experience with it though.
