Dell Inspiron 15 3000 - i5, 8GB, 1TB - £399 or £360 with VIP code @ Dell

Afternoon all,

I'm in the market for a laptop at the moment but am so confused by all the modern specs and trying to figure out what I actually need. Thought i'd post this to see if people rate it or not....

Its £399 with free delivery or £360 with the 10% VIP code.

4th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-4210U processor (3M Cache, up to 2.7 GHz)
Windows 8.1 (64Bit) English
8GB Single Channel DDR3 1600MHz (8GBx1)
1TB 5400 rpm SATA Hard Drive
1 year Collect & Return Hardware Support included with your PC
Intel® HD Graphics 4400
Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)
Dell Wireless 1705 802.11b/g/n with Bluetooth v4.0
15.6 inch LED Backlit Display with Truelife and HD resolution (1366 x 768)

With an i5, 8GB RAM for that price, seems better specced on the face of it than anything else I have seen on here recently.

No idea if its a good deal but if anyone thinks not, can they state why and link to anything better, purely because I am looking to buy a machine and don't have a clue what to go for.

Where is this deal? Can't see it on the Dell site

Is it on outlet? In which case you won't get the VIP discount

unless you are desperate for a touchscreen then avoid them. They hit your battery power, computing power and as Dazzy said, lower your resolution.

If this price was without a touchscreen it would be expensive for the components but with the touchscreen its OK.

So do you want touchscreen? bothered about screen size?

17" screen here - hotukdeals.com/dea…539

It's there, saw it myself earlier
This may work

I think Dell are showing the 5000 series but calling it 7000...too many series numbers now..the aluminium one is also a 7000 series but this is not aluminium

Sorry guys, my bad - its NOT touchscreen - stupid bloody Dell site showing "Touch Enabled" on all machines regardless.

The rest of the spec stands though.

This is a website error when you add it to the basket it is an Inspiron 15 3000. The cheapest Inspiron 15 7000 is £650

Double edit... as Twinkle mentioned above, it states it is the 7000 series but then adds it to the basked as the 3000 series. Stupid Dell

Problem solved...this is the Dell 3000...look at the tag on the top, clearly says inspiron 3000 series

The breadcrumb trail on that page says it's a 3000 series:

> New Inspiron 15 3000 Series (Intel®)

Think that's right - not the title on the page.

If you click to add it to your basket it also gets added as a 3000 - so you won't get a 7000 delivered.

Completely agree on Dell's website being rubbish with the "Touch enabled" info

Even more puzzling the Inspiron 15 3000 doesn't have an i5 option, only 4GB of RAM and 500GB hard drive.

Cheers mate, just seen your post.

Not too bothered about touchscreen but would be nice if it had one. Ideally looking for something around the 13" to 15" screen size - 14" would be ideal.

Haven't got a clue if I need an i5 or if i3 would be enough. Apart from web browsing (with usually a fair few windows open), Office and e-mail, I suppose the most 'intense' stuff I do is AutoCAD work.

EDIT: Just seen that AutoCAD recommends 8GB ram (minimum 2GB) so would probably want 4GB/6GB that was upgradeable or the 8GB straight off.

Cheers mate, yeah I saw that but wasn't sure if it was a good deal or not. Have never been convinced by Acer build quality.

Presumably the Dell in the OP would be a better option than both - £10 more than the acer but double the RAM and £10 less than the Lenovo.

Thought the Dell splash was an error - and that machine on offer is only an i3?

No mate, it is i5, or at least appears to be.
