I'm thinking of going for this for my nephew is it any good anyone please for the price obviously

Firstly I'm definitely no expert, but saying that, if it was for me, all I think its missing is mainly an SSD and possibly a back-Lit keyboard. But the real experts may say I'm talking rubbish, which is ok.

Needs an SSD

Expert here - with those comments sir, I now certify you a verifiable (/real) expert.

Furthermore, you have managed to attain these credentials in only 2 months of being a member, which also makes you a prodigy of sorts. So, from henceforth you can go by the title PVE (Prodigious Verifiable Expert). Or: Sir DNPR, PVE.

how would you compare it with the HP AMD A12 on John Lewis for £479, it's an extra £62, but was hoping if someone could provide some pros and cons, thanks

The amd processor is a quad core processor compared to a dual core i3. I don't know how well the amd's perform or how hot they get, you'd have to find out for yourself. It has a better graphics driver. It only has a quarter of the storage, but it's in SSD form, plus you may be able to install a HDD (check to see how easy that is & which type you need). It looks good but there may be others better for slightly more, check pcworld, ebuyer, hp & dell stores. (i've checked most under that price)

a 14 inch option with a 2 year old i3 if you don't mind it, and possibly no hdd upgrade:
