No SSD

Not everyone wants an ssd. Laptop hard drives can be upgraded, other components like cpu and gpu can't.

No SSD

Not a bad deal for a solid cpu and basic level graphics card. Can play battlefield 1, overwatch, gta v, titanfall 2. Most recent games will struggle though.

Very true, it’s a decent deal. I just meant for myself I probably would have bought it if it included an SSD. Could always add one in though

SSD should be standard in 2017 no excuses, most units are very hard to upgrade now with no service doors like the old laptops and will void your warranty if you do so

How much do 256gb ssd cost.

Thanks

Reduced from £749, should definitely have a SSD.

May be able to couple with the Amex offer on here a few days ago. Spend £150 at Microsoft and receive £30 back in credit

Looking for a laptop for sons Xmas. Wouldn't be using it for alot of gaming but does like video editing and game captures on his ps4. The only game he really wants is planet coaster cause he's obsessed with Disney world, universal and roller-coaster designing. Could someone tell me if this laptop is suitable for this or could recommend something that is.it sure if the R7 graphics card is good enough.

Thanks in advance for all help.

It can be seen herethat the R7 it is not all that great. I would buy a laptop with either a 960m or 1050ti as a minimum for those requirements. I say that as I own last year's Dell Inspiron 7559 with a i7 and the 960m. I'm a student who likes gaming here and there as well as using the laptop for 3D CAD work. The laptop has no problem handling games (especially newer ones at around mid-high) or CAD programs. Although, I haven't seen how it performs for video editing...I bought this last year for £699, and spent a bit extra on an SSD, which is an absolute must (I recommend at least 120gb).

I'm in no way a PC expert, so best to see what others say before choosing

Then they've probably never used an SSD!

Yet another laptop with an integrated battery so when it goes dead after 2-3 years you can't replace it. I would never buy a laptop with an integrated battery for that reason alone

It really doesnt take much effort and any more than a philips screwdriver though tbf.

Agree. Normally whole bottom panel pops off and ram HDD and battery all there to be swapped

Sorry, but I'd rather get something with SSD for that price!

Or prefer having a 1TB storage capacity. I get that a lot of people don't play games outside of the odd casual game, but there are valid reasons why a lot of gaming computers have higher capacity hdds.

Besides, larger ssds will become available at better prices eventually. So, it's something you can upgrade to when it makes sense to from a gamer's perspective.

Good deal. thanks for sharing.

512gb ssd cost around £125 these days. It’s a must. Speed will be 5x faster. Who want to wait 5/10mintues for a restart? SSD will take less than a minute

Good thinking that. :-)

I'm going to need a similar 'service' in a few Year's time I reckon?.

For a Lenovo 510 Laptop that was bought last Year Black Friday/Cyber Monday Weekend time ...
Time with tell?, lol.

Definitely check out the Dell outlet if you want an inspiron, i got one of these with an ssd for under £500 6 months ago.

Could you add an additional drive - SSD? SSDs are dirt cheap nowadays anyway!

Nah you'd have to replace the hdd for this model, there's only one hard drive slot

My Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD cost £115 in 2015 and is now c. £150 so that's your theory shot down.
Eventually maybe, but not much sign of it yet.

Nobody will be buying this for gaming. Its just not good enough. The odd one or two while travelling maybe, but you wont want to install an entire gaming library on it as it wont run them well.

its sad that it even did not have an IPS panel at the original price......Dell still flogging TN (and non backlit keyboard) in most of their ranges except the one around 1k onwards

That's a lie given the proof I've linked to. And really, no surprise that the more expensive a computer is the more you're able to do with it. As a budget gaming laptop, this is decent enough, unless you can find an better alternative at the same price.

Proof? Proof!!?!
Your link says that this thing struggles to play deus x, doom, x-com, tomb raider, watch dogs 2, cod IW2 at the lowest settings at potato shape resolutions. I'd hope that anyone spending £600 on a laptop for gaming would have the common sense to find something that can actually play the games at 40fps+ without looking like a 3 year old drew them.

Did anyone purchase this? I did and it was missing advertised it turns out as having a back-lit keyboard. Many have complained apparently and I've been told to call Microsoft store back in a few days to see what they can do about it.
