Screen, keyboard, battery and not being 2nd hand probably all add to the price.

Boring? It's a laptop. What do you expect it to do differently than others?

Am I right in thinking that graphics card is a dud?
How are the screen on these?

Correct

Well, it's a budget laptop, but at this price it's a reasonable spec, or good bang for your buck. Gamers probably should look elsewhere, and dig deeper in their pockets too

I looked at one in currys and it looked decent. This looks like a really good deal imo.

Pretty much, this is thin and fairly light so isn't really for gaming. More like a budget XPS.

It's better than the intel graphics on the CPU, it has it's own dedecated memory but it's not a latest Triple A gaming GPU
This look good to me for a non gaming laptop. I've just bought one but would consider this if I hadn't
IPS panel?

It’s weak but it’s ‘ok’ for light (and I mean light) gaming, mostly eSports stuff. It’s a rebranded 940MX. For the money it’s pretty balanced all round especially with that 8250U quad-core. Good find OP!

Awful. I have this laptop for watching films when working away. It’s terrible. Very grainy and washed out. I wouldn’t bother with this personally!
IIRC the graphics card is crippled in some way on these. Battery life is pretty poor IIRC also.

you when run the graphics card is it seperate to the intel graphics card eg do you have to launch the graphics card to play games

It uses nVidia Optimus so it should kick in when you launch a game.
hmm... plenty of heat but the specs don't lie it's a budget laptop.
weak processor, screen, ram, ssd, graphcis, battery....
better off saving some cash and going for integrated graphics only or splashing out on something with a good dgpu.
To expensive

Great price.
My Inspiron 13 (5000 series) has had crackly speakers for much of its life and the battery permanently failed 2.5 years in. Also had to reinstall Windows after it failed on me completely at one point. Never buying Dell again.
For those complaining, what basic spec would u need from a laptop for general use? How much would u expect to spend on a decent laptop? Not specifically for gaming
Ordered, thanks

What would you recommend for the same money? Or is this another need to spend £1000+ for a high spec laptop that I can't afford

£150??? That sounds stupidly cheap
I've been looking for something like that and the only ones I can find in that price range are 5th gen i5

Didn’t happen, who is going to sell an 8th gen i5 NUC for £150 unless they don’t know what it is...

What a load of rubbish - i5-8250U is a strong quad-core CPU, 8GB RAM fine, 256GB SSD fine at this price point, discrete graphics which leaves more resources for the rest of the system even if weak, battery also fine. 7000 series Inspirons are the best ones they do. Not everyone wants a good discrete GPU.

Why didn’t you do a warranty claim while it was new, and now one bad experience you write off the entire brand? Just buy a new set of speakers on eBay for £5.

It does not have NUM pad. I believe this is the exact same model. It's actually really nice. Good find OP. Heat!

How long is a piece of string?

I just ordered a new xps 13" 2 in 1 for my better half. So £1899 is how much I will pay for what she will do with it.
Nice find. Decent rounded spec. Good build quality in what is a fairly small and light package for this form factor.
Personally I could do away with the discrete graphics as it doesn't add to the overall experience.
If you want a desktop replacement Box are selling Thinkpad p52s for a bargain price of £800.
Having made the mistake of having 2 Dell laptops before I can't recommend it. Unless their build quality has improved, some pretty shoddy workmanship goes in to their laptops.

He probably expects it to bring him freshly made coffee in the morning along with a gtx 2080ti for £500

I prefer intel processors so I would go for this. My current laptop (new) has the i-8250u and 8gb ram (pretty much the same specs as this) and it's blazing fast! Gaming purposes, don't know though.
