Nice price but be aware this is a very chunky laptop, and the lower end of the Dell build quality...although seeing as the XPS15z is held together with glue then perhaps this opinion is wrong

Yep, definitely one for those who appreciate performance and price over form and factor. Sweet deal though.

No, Dell has a better processor (i52430 vs i5480) and more memory (4GB vs 3GB). Also Dell have a better rep than PB.

That said, I can't get the code to work now!

As said, that Packhard Bell is not Sandybridge CPU.

This Acer IMHO would be preferable, though a little dearer

That's a nicer looking machine alright but you would need to throw away the 3GB RAM to upgrade to 8GB, (The Dell comes with a single 4GB stick and as already stated can be upgraded to 8GB for less than 20 quid).

Is that Dell code not an Employers Purchase Plan code and therefore just not anyone can use it?

Just wondering

just ordered mine

Good specs for the price but pity it's a Dell.

This isn't a gamers rig by any stretch of the imagination but I guess in terms of bang for your buck if your budget is below 400.00 this might be your best bet? (You can bump up the RAM to 8GB and still keep the cost below 400). Alternative might be to go for a desktop?
Edited by: "rd3d2" 3rd Dec 2011

can anybody get this to work?

coupon not working for me either. so its coming £448.99 delivered for me. Another coupon which works and takes out 5% is Q0Z6SL338CZH1H but thats still £427 odd pounds.

My son is after a desktop to run Minecraft and other similar games. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Most problems are the users bad surfing habits and/or lack of knowledge.

Hi, Its important to know what other games he wants to play, Minecraft will run on any mordern desktop/Laptop

Cheers for the recognition on finding the deal OP.

Just hope some people are able to make use of the EPP discount. Obviously not everyone can...but just hope it helps a few.

Not getting it for £377...still £429, i guess the code has been overused?

ah well, back over to dell outlet to continue the search...

I have the xps15z and this is built to the highest of quality
And is as thin as a mac book .....
Wanted reliability with a good look and has a half decent spec
I know there is better out there , but have had dell before and can't knock them ....
Deffo wasn't spending a grand on an iMac ....

Well that is difficult to answer as he only plays Minecraft at the moment. However I'm looking forward and anticipate more games on the horizon, but don't think a full on gaming machine is needed (or affordable!).

So in summary something that is faster than the average laptop but not above £500.

Cold from me, just got back from my local Sainsburys where they still had a Medion P6624 in stock for a nice £299. It wasn't on display but the guy was pretty helpful and found a new/sealed one in the back.

i5 (gen 1)/640 Gb harddrive/4 Gb ram/dedicated graphics card

Can't go wrong at this price even if it isn't the latest and greatest. Was posted here a year ago at £499

hotukdeals.com/dea…834

Definitely worth phoning around for stock, I called 3 stores before I found one (I was looking for the Medion ones currently on their website but they seem to be sold out)

the code is an EPP code (Employee Purchase Program)....for employees of select companies. I'm lucky enough to get this at my work...so was hoping a few others might be able to.

There are 2 memory slots, the PB has one 2GB stick and a 1GB stick wherase the Dell has a single 4GB stick and an empty slot.

But there again, does anyone really need 8gb RAM? (_;)

Also, my post [#11] referred to the Asus at Laskys - doesn't say what bit the OS is - if it's 32bit, then it will only access a maximum of around 3.5Gb anyway, no matter how much RAM is installed. Only a 64bit OS can see past this figure.
