PCWorld want another £80 for an extra GB of RAM and a 250gb HD instead of this 160gb (same model)

HOT DEAL!

just watch out...these are "Dual Core" not "Core 2 Duo"...there is a difference, they also only have Vista Home Basic and do not have the built in webcam...

Good deal for 1545!

And Windows Vista Premium instead of Basic.

How different does a product have to be to avoid price comparisons?

Useless fkin product information... retailers who don't know what they're selling realy irritate me.

To be fair, most people buying this dont really need to know (or understand) any more than this.

From the Dell website (on similar spec'd 1545s):
Video Card
Intel Integrated GMA 4500MHD

what's so bad about dell?

Isn't it Vista that's the weak link?

I think its a great deal!!

I'm a big fan of Dell but the HP deal looks better for £50 more.

I love Vista. Got a Dell Vostro 1500 monster spec about a year ago and Vista runs beautifully on it. Way betetr than I ever got XP to run.

Don't think so. This one is a 1545, the other one is for the 1525 model.

The both appear separetly on the Tesco website, so are different models, although same price.

Also have same laptop same year, great build quality great laptop

Having deliberated endlessly over the last few weeks, and having the Dell on my final shortlist (along with Sony Vaio, and Lenovo) in the end I opted for the Toshiba Satellite A200 -1YO from Cdiscount which is £349.98 and has the Core 2 Duo processor and Vista Home Premium.

At the moment there is also a code to get free delivery plus £2 off the price, and of course 4% Quidco.

It only arrived today so haven't had time to play, but opted for this based on reviews, the comment of people here on HUKD and Toshiba being a brand that WHICH? list as being amongst the most reliable.

Is the Dell any better than the Sony Vaio above pls anyone? I have reserved one for collection and then saw this deal. Specs look pretty much the same.

Me too, Inspiron 8600 purchased Feb 2004 (for £1300 mind) added 1Gb Ram since - still zips along quite happily.

Apart from some details in the specs that may matter to you like Firewire or gigabit ethernet, the key difference is that the Dell has a better processor, but the Sony has Vista Home Premium intead of Basic.

They're both good deals.

Is this the same spec on the Dell website after you upgrade to 2 X 1GB memory, maybe get more quidco from Dell:roll:

You've chosen the wrong processor. The Tesco deal has a better one.

Processor Intel© Pentium© Dual-Core
Processor Bus 667Mhz
Processor Cache 1MB
Processor Model Number T3400
Processor Speed 2.16Ghz

Note the Pentium Dual Core, rather than the Celeron.

theres only one way to find out . ..

FIIGGGGHHTT!!

seriously, how did i not see this. i went into tesco today, bought one of these and thought i found out a great deal. and posted it. stupid me!!

anyhoo, on it now. lovely.! hot.

This is an awesome deal however I went with the normal Dell website. For £399, I got the same laptop but with better processor, Vista Premium and bluetooth mouse. For my sister to do her uni work and listen to iTunes and watch movies etc so would rather have the better (if only comparitively) version of Vista.

I'm saving up for a Macbook myself! Voted this deal hot though as is a good price and made me choose this model of laptop in the first place.

I was considering this for a neighbour a few days ago. Saw a 3GB RAM, 250GB HD version on the Dell Outlet for £400 including the £55 off promotion and thought that a better offer.

I have just checked the Dell Outlet and despite the £55 offer not being on any longer the system comes in at £393 delivered (plus Quidco if you use it). There were 2 left about an hour ago there seem to be loads now.

For the extra £43 you are getting an extra 80GB HD, 1GB RAM, slightly better processor and an upgrade of Vista from Home Basic to Home Premium....though there is no choice of colour.... just gloss blue.

heyo, can someone give me some info on this, got mine last night, and the battery only charged to 92% then stopped.

Also, tonight, I unplugged it from the wall, it was on 62% when the pc turned off. I managed to get it back on and it came up critical battery at 2% ??!!

What the flock lol.

I think I may have a dodgy battery, any thoughts?
