256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 can be added for an extra £45 if you are into gaming.

Tempting.................

Original Poster

So tempting that i bought 2 !!! one for me and one to treat my dad.
I agree you can get some good deals with acer laptops, but this is with a large company whom i have had previous great customer support, so just puts the mind at rest.

never had a dell before and think if i did buy one i'd go for :

1, CPU - change to core 2 duo p7450 (2.13ghz) [this is just as fast as the t6600, however uses a smaller voltage, therefore runs cooler] - Only £10 more.
2, Primary battery- change to 6 cell battery. - Only £5 more

how long will the 6 cell battery give?

And how are dell as a company??

Original Poster

I reckon you'd get 2.5-3 hours with light use out of a 6-cell.

my friends dell broke last year. hdd was knackered. they came out and fitted a new one within a matter of days

I've used dell laptop's for years, don't buy anything but dell when it comes to laptops.

I don't buy their PC's though as I usually build my own.

Hope that helps

could an expert comment - on value and alternatives thanks

i am an expert.....(more a geek than an expert)
and i think it is a great deal.
I have been looking for a laptop for a month or 2 now, and this just made me think buy buy buy!

this looks a top deal.. been after a laptop for months now, my only concern is the graphics card 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330, anybody got this card? is it going to be up to playing the latest games? this will be the deal breaker for me have had a look at some reviews and stats but the more i look the more confused i get..!

Original Poster

if you look on this website it shows that it can play some new games on low to medium settings:

notebookcheck.net/Com…tml

Sounds a great deal....

Just a note the P7450 processor has a faster FSB speed 1066 Mhz compared to the T6600 with 800Mhz....one of those things which does speed things up and isn't often mentioned by the sales people and in the online specs....

Don't forget, plus 3% Quidco

Seems like a good deal. Depending on what code you use to bring up the item you might be able to bring up the exact same machine for less.

Thanks for this, It was just what I was looking for. A decent (affordable) lap top with windows 7 and available in white. I've placed my order (through Quidco)

256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330
Could this cope with the SIMS 3?

Hdmi?

LOL they're trying to charge £40 extra for 4GB RAM over 3GB!

Can't figure out if this is a steal or not, need a couple more expert opinions please

good :- cpu, Win7
bad :- Intel Integrated GMA 4500MHD, so not a games machine as it stands.

Original Poster

definate copes with sims 3.
no hdmi as far as i know. there is a vga output.

and nebula, this is a steal!!!

Maybe you should post a new deal for £459

ive got an old del studio with a ati 3450 and that can run left for dead 2, but I have to crank the settings way down, so this should be able to run most things just fine (wont be as pretty as a desktop etc etc but will run fine)

This is a good deal! Defo hot.

I would go for the upgraded graphics card to be honest, and the RAM is fine at 3GB.

Dell are great laptops, I have only had one problem and that was a keyboard going wrong. I chatted online to one of the technicians and they sent me a keyboard out next day to fit, which was very easy to do.

Thumbs Up!

looks tempting

I see the same problems with dell laptops since the origional latitudes. Mousepad goes out after about a year of daily useage, will start playing up needing you to hit the thing to stop the mouse ******ing off over the other side of the screen.

If you carry in a laptop backpack or carry one handed ect the flexing on the case often causes the screws rewin the plastic hole they are screwed into. Meaning parts of the case seperate where they shouldnt exposing the insides, this can also allow the hard drive to easily come away.

Also cheep disk drives have a habbit of not writing discs properly after about a year.

I wouldnt buy this without slapping on a three year warantee, put it that way.

Good specs for the price though. So heat added.

Just do not expect good build quality. I love the build quality of Asus, goes with me everywhere on bike or walking, been knocked off countless desks, only one small corner of plastic missing to show for it.

Ordered! Thanks.

All my work Dell's have done this after a while, it's because the little blue mouse pointer in the middle of the keyboard plays up. Just go into mouse settings and disable it

I do agree that is a better deal.
However, i really wanted something that was core 2 duo, so that it was kind of future proofed.

Your link is a great value deal if core 2 duo isn't needed, and dual core will suffice.
Nice find

I'm wanting to believe, just wishing this'd pick up a little more heat. The Dell studio base model isn't that much more.

It is a very good price for a Dell of this spec. This post popped up just after I had been laptop shopping online for the last few hours.

A good indicator of the best prices you can get on other brands is eBuyer. All the laptops on there are well above this price for this spec and especially the quality of the CPU.

One notable exception, and a great offer, is this 'Zoostorm' laptop:

ebuyer.com/pro…596

Spec and price is almost identical to the Dell (the Dell if £5 more if you upgrade to the 6 cell battery to match). Also the Dell has the option to upgrade the T6600 CPU to the one in the OP (P7450) for just £10, which is well worth it as the performance doesn't increase but battery life will.

To sum up, i'd rather have the Dell at this money. It'll be better built.

V. good price for this CPU and Windows 7. Pity it doesn't support DDR3 … V. good price for this CPU and Windows 7. Pity it doesn't support DDR3 RAM. Would prefer the chassis of the Studio range over an Inspiron - sturdier and doesn't show fingermarks as readily as on the shiny black palmrest of the Inspiron. No webcam as standard either. A non-gamer wanting a machine for surfing and office tasks probably won't notice the benefits of the fast processor.

I'll be using for Audio and Image editing - so I certainly would. Won't use it for games so left out the graphics card.

How does this compare with this one I posted yesterday? : hotukdeals.com/ite…al-
