Sorry but the details page does not work for me so it should take you to the main deals page

www1.euro.dell.com/uk/…als

on this page there is also the 1764 which is the 17" screen version.

I will edit this when the page works, i contacted dell about it because i want to see what upgrade options there are.

I have put in a direct link now to the product page so all should be well.
Its not a dell outlet deal btw but I cant get rid of that for now.

Thanks V much MikeT, I'm using my works pc and the new site doesn't work too well on these pc's.

Good average price for an i3 equipped machine; small HDD but for some the slightly faster i3-350m processor will be worth the sacrifice.

I thought so too, my battered Acer conked out last week and looking for an I3, although there are some cheape ones i do like Dell machines, and this has Win 7 64bit which is nice too.

The 17" 1764 for just £449 seems really good value; for £60 you can upgrade the 1764 to 4Gb ram and 320Gb HDD and for £170 to 4Gb Ram, 500Gb HDD, Bluetooth and HD5450 graphics.
Although the link doesn't seem to be there for the Inspiron 15 I guess similar upgrades are available for the same costs if you phone through...

have they ever sorted out the fan problems with the 1764 and 1564?

have they ever sorted out the fan problems with the 1764 and 1564?

No I don't think they have - for those who haven't heard of this issue several Dell models have poor fan control; where the fan is either idle or full-on. This means under light use the fan will allow system temperatures to rise until a certain point then switch on full-blast and chill the system then let temperatures rise... ...some folks find the noise distracting while others are concerned the extremes of heating and cooling may damage the system over long periods...

plus £21 delivery.
I am really tempted by some of these deals, especially with the i5 processors.
Is there any way to extend warranty beyond the year just for piece of mind once that ends does anyone know?

its i3 for 400+ bucks, not hot

I'd always been a bit wary of Dell Outlet, I recently bought a scratch and dent XPS 16 and was very pleased (apart from the imposibility of contacting them before completing your order).

A better spec'd Studio for less money is a no-brainer really.

P.S. Where do you find that level of detail? None of the 1558s I looked at showed the graphics in "system details"...

Holding out for USB 3 on my next laptop.

It didn't show on every one I checked, I have bought many from the outlet and called their service people to confirm the spec before purchasing, I have always purchased ''scratch and dent '' and always received pristine laptops

My 'scratch and dent' was pristine; but where did you find a service number from? I couldn't get response to email queries and the phone number on the outlet site takes you to a very rude dell salesperson who can't help with outlet deals... ...I guess now that I've ordered in future I could call the "Account Manager Telephone number that was on my receipt?

No I never found that number on the outlet site; I ended up missing a few deals where the spec. wasn't clear or had been entered incorrectly - as I said in the end I got (what I thought was) a very good deal. I'll make a note of that number so I can pass it on to friends and other lost HUKDers...

Thanks!

just to add I called that 0870 152 4699 number and I got a rather unprofessional lady as well. For the first 10 seconds she was probably eating something, then answered the phone and said they don't support Dell Outlet over the phone, e-mail only. I'm going to buy the 1588 now with fingers crossed!

Some good deals on the Outlet the last few days and the free shipping helps.

Studio 1747 with Core i7 1.6, 4GB DDR3 1333, 500GB 7,200 rpm, HD 4650 from £520 delivered
Studio 1749 with Core i5 2,4, 4GB, 500GB 7,200 rpm, HD 5650 from £492 delivered.

Both have excellent gaming graphics and decent CPUs. The i5 has better turbo-boost than the i7 and should run cooler also.
