Ditto link not working

I think it is the standard Inspiron 17 laptop

And you can upgrade to the Core 2 Duo T9600 CPU for "only" £360 extra

Is this not a better deal for an extra £48? You get an extra 250GB of storage and 1GB of RAM.

Most people dont even need 3Gb of memory, let alone paying for 1Gb extra.

True, but i'd pay an extra £48 just for the extra £250GB of storage.

Removed the link to the OP's basket and added a direct "go to deal" link

The extra £45 for a Radeon HD4330 would probably be of more benefit. (roughly 5 times faster than the stock Intel 4500MHD)

Agreed. An upgraded hard drive could be fitted later whilst a laptop graphic card is near enough impossible.

Are u able to do this but with the 15 inch screen?

No worries found it.

Nothing special. Basic laptop at above average price.

jaypr;7066254

True, but i'd pay an extra £48 just for the extra £250GB of storage.

I wouldnt. You could get an additional 500GB HDD for that price somewhere else and still have the 250GB HDD. £48 is a very poor upgrade price.

Happy with the spec "as is" especially for sons school work, be a good upgrade from his PII 450 desktop!

Mine comes to £398.99

Which is 1p cheaper.. ahaa x)

I'm looking for a new laptop and I'm considering the Studio 15.
Core Duo T4300 2.1Ghz, 800mhz, 4Gb of ram.
15" screen, 6 cell battery and 500Gb HDD
For £499

You'd be better off with this deal... no point in paying £100 more?!

ETA - if you're only looking for a 15 inch screen there's a decent asus laptop on ebuyer and it has dedicated graphics included.

If you're not fussed about graphics for games then you could spend £20 less on this one:

Isn't this the same laptop as £329 CPW deal from a couple of months ago ?

Don't see what all the fuss is about, average laptop at an average price - this one is far better:

nothing special

change the picture, the pic is a studio 15

...and over £100 to upgrade to a core 2 duo processor  IIRC, it was around a tenner to do so on one of the 15" models about 3 weeks ago.

Not voting, however...... there are lots of outlet machines with better spec for cheaper if you are prepared to wait for them to appear... Worth a look. I'm on my 3rd refurb. All been fine and never let me down.

maybe; you need a new computer then.. lol :-D

Who the hell has voted this up to 250 degrees?! There must be a lot of people out there who know cock-all about laptops!!

Seems a good deal to me. Good spec and a 17 inch screen for less than 400 quid !

Performance-wise, I'd say this laptop is just above average, but for a 17" screen at sub-£400 it represents good value if you're not planning any graphics-intensive tasks. An alternative 17-incher (albeit a bit more expensive) is the Acer Aspire 7735Z, which costs £415 at ebuyer

Erm, that's a 15" model with a low-res screen - it has almost nothing in common with this DELL !

If you insist - after 30 seconds of searching, how about a cheaper laptop with the same res and a 17.3" screen?

it247.com/pro…2EA

By the way, I know the Acer is a smaller screen (by 1.4"...) but the rest of the spec is better, particularly the dedicated graphics and HDMI out, which makes it a much more versatile purchase.

Good spot although the dedicated graphics card will still be useless in games and will consume more battery life even if it’s idling.
Really depends on the user to which laptop would be best suited to them.

What's your point here ? Are you trying to suggest this as a better deal than the DELL ?

Not in the slightest - can't you remember your own posting?! To jog your memory, your challenge was:

You're absolutely bang-on Phil, but that wasn't the point of the exercise! As stated earlier, I would much rather sacrifice 1.4" of real estate and go for the more versatile Acer 5738G.

Nom;7221158

Incorrect - "average" laptops don't include 1600 x 900 screens.

The highest res available on a laptop (out of the box) is 1920 x 1200 = 2.3 million pixels. The lowest (excluding netbooks) is 800 x 600 = 480 000 pixels. The average is therefore 1.4 million pixels, making the screen res on this machine (1.44 million) pretty much average!!:whistling:
