Is it from Dell or another retailer?

dell.com/uk/…/pd?refid=inspiron-17-7737&baynote_bnrank=0&baynote_irrank=0&~ck=baynoteSearch&isredir=true

Believe this is the link...

Looked at these( Inspiron 7000 series) - when the deal started last week and frankly for the specs they need another £100 off before they could be considered a deal . The Lenovo I7 model from John Lewis is £499 with similar specs and a 2 year J Lewis warranty . Cold I'm afraid

But this is 17 inch with HD display

The Dell 5000 series 17" is a better deal at £479 - I5 4th gen ,1TB, 8GB. Once you get above £500 for an I5 machine ,there are so many alternatives a deal is really hard to find . My mistake with the I7 , I thought it must have the I7 processor for you to consider it a deal.

This is a great deal but it's just been put across badly. I've had this laptop for about a week now, I paid £483 off the Dell Outlet store(Refurbished)
This is the 7000 series so it has much higher build quality than the 5000 or 3000 no plastic on this it's all aluminium. it has a backlit key board 4*usb3 ports good quality speakers a better battery etc
Full Hd touchscreen(1920*1080)
Dedicated graphics card(NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB DDR5)
Duel band wifi
6Gb mem
750Gb hard drive
dvd/cd writer

I've fitted a Crucial 500Gb ssd it' a great machine. I have got to say though that it is heavy and that's compared to my previous 17" Toshiba.

So for £70 more the ops deal has.
Much higher build quality(Forged aluminium v Plastic)
Full HD screen
Touch screen
Dedicated graphics card
Backlit keyboard
3 more USB3 ports
Better battery
Duel band wifi

Against
Smaller Hard drive 750 v 1000
less mem 6 v 8
Costs £70 more

Thats only against the Dell model - as I said for £500 + , you have a huge range of I5 17" Laptops to choose from virtually all manufacturers . Dell deals wren't too bad when £80 off is combined with 10% off - as with the Fathers Day deal ,rest of the time (apart from some outlet deals ) they really couldn't be classed as "Deals " . bigbaz ,I'm afraid you're like Prince Charles - maybe ready to rule but not there yet

the thing is bigbaz is right, build quality, etc etc its cheaper than the the dell 15 inch quivalent!

I'll be honest for £550 I would want an exceptional I5 machine as the going price for a machine of this spec (without the HD screen ) is £320 -£370 ,available from many manufacturers . Build quality is always subjective ,so I'd take that with a pinch of salt .I must declare an interest as I've been messed around no end by Dells pathetic customer service , spending hours on the phone trying to reach someone who can assist- then waiting days for the unforthcoming promised call back . Or maybe I've just been unlucky ?

please feel free to post a 17 inch i5 for £320, i'll have one (probably an acer).

considering buying it tbh, heat

Looks a good price but backlit keyboard doesn't get very good reviews. Anyone with experience of these?

Yes I'm typing on it now, It's true the backlight isn't brilliant, in lots of light conditions the backlight actually makes it more difficult to see the keys.It does however have a key(F10) to turn off the backlighting and 2 levels of intensity.

Thanks, does that improve the visibility of the keys in sunlight etc?

I haven't tried it in sunlight(I've only had it for a week). I'm sat on the sofa typing this not far from being under the ceiling light. Turning on the backlight makes visibility worse, of course if I was sat here at midnight with no lighting the backlight would be a Godsend.

Bigbaz I have a few questions if you don't mind answering:
Does it get very warm?
Loud?
Does it get sluggish after long use ?

I don't mean to cause any offence saying this, but the reason it did not get hotter was the way you represented the deal.
You should have made it clear in the title that it was a Full HD screen a Touchscreen, that it had a dedicated graphics card and superior build quality. If you had done this I think it would have got the heat it deserved
It would be nice if when you get the laptop you post your views on it.

Yeah, your right, I just thought people would know what it was, I will post review when I get it, I'm pretty picky, so I'm hoping its good.
I'm going to amend the title to try and get this deal hot!

So, which i7 Lenovo on the John Lewis website is this then? Hang on, let us all close our eyes and try to imagine it.

Sorry, but your comment is pointless if you do not link to the laptop that you are saying is better.

Sorry its really difficult isnt it ? How about go to John Lewis ,Laptops,Lenovo -but that would mean hitting about 5 buttons ,far too difficult for you I presume (_;) . Sadly this computer (at work ) doesnt't let me post links .

I just liked your post for its sarcasm.

Sorry, don't have the time trying to figure out which Lenovo on the JL website you are talked about :-)

I think this is the deal rogparki is looking at
johnlewis.com/len…267
It's not an alternative to the Dell though. it's a 15.6 not a 17" so why he has suggested this I don't know.

Thanks. It also does not have a full HD screen. Nor is it a touch screen. Has an onboard GPU as well. I think a Lenovo of similar spec to the Dell would be nearer £1,000 but I could just be making that up.

Lpatops are too expensive these days - there are less firms making them as the bottom has fallen out of the market and the few firms still making them have decided to start charging premiums. Ultrabook prices are ludicrous IMPO.

Rant over.

how easy would it be to fit a SSD to this? Would it be a regular of mSata drive?

can you get these with windows 7 or ubuntu, I really detest windows 8 with a passion

It's easy to fit a SSD. I've fitted a Crucial MX100 500Gb to mine.

don't care what others say this deal is excellent

Thanks ordered with the VIP discount for £539.

I ordered mine last week and its still not here, rang them up, said there was a delay due to high demand on this model, so someone must think its a good deal:D

ordered mine last Friday, estimated shipping date is 4th of Aug

All gone.

This is one of the thinnest 17 inch laptops, at 25mm (27mm with the touch screen, which seems the only available verson available everywhere). Only the msi gs70 is thinner, but 2.5x more expensive
